faith: Belief not based on logical proof or material evidence.

The intense religious brainwashing I endured when I was very young frequently included the word faith. The idea was faith is a good thing. It's important to have faith.

Faith is essential for the existence of all the world's religions. When victims of religious indoctrination are able to develop enough common sense to figure out faith is for suckers, the religious bullshit can get thrown out very fast. This is why the faith idea is drilled into the victim repeatedly and relentlessly.

The preacher man tells his customers they must have faith. The asshole preacher never mentions the fact that if his customers demanded evidence for his bullshit, the preacher would have to get a real job.

People who understand the importance of eradicating religious insanity from the world need to attack the concept called faith. Religious idiots need to be convinced they should throw out ideas that have no evidence, especially if those ideas are ridiculously impossible. They need to understand faith is a mental illness and not a virtue.

It's for a good reason 93% of the world's best scientists are atheists. They belong to the National Academy of Sciences and many of them have won a Nobel Prize for their important discoveries. For them evidence is extremely important and faith is meaningless. If their scientific experiments don't show any evidence for an idea, the idea is thrown out.

When a religious person invokes a magic god fairy to explain an unsolved scientific problem I ask "Where's your evidence?" They're always unable to answer that question so I say "You can't expect a normal person to believe that bullshit."

Frequently religious people will invoke a magic god fairy for scientific problems which have already been solved. For example the idiots will say "god made people". I tell the superstitious morons they have two problems. They don't have any evidence for their magical fantasy, and scientists have repeatedly provided evidence that shows beyond any doubt people developed from ancient apes. These science deniers are permanently brain damaged and they're a waste of time. Stupid can't be fixed.

Other religious people understand and accept scientific evidence but they will still look for some way to stick their god in there somewhere. For example they will say "god invented the natural processes that make the universe work." I tell them they have no evidence for their magical inventor and natural processes didn't have to be invented. For example I tell them it's ridiculous to pretend there would no natural selection unless your fairy invented it. I tell them their fairy was never necessary for anything, it's childish to believe in a supernatural magician, and they're being lazy when they invoke magic to solve scientific problems.

Like the science deniers, these idiots who desperately look for a place to hide their god fairy are permanently insane, especially if they are older. It's possible to save a young person from a lifetime of stupidity, but if they still believe in supernatural bullshit at age 30 their disease is incurable.

The plain fact is, religion must die for mankind to live. The hour is getting very late to be able to indulge in having key decisions being made by religious people, by irrationalists, by those who would steer the ship of state not by a compass, but by the equivalent of reading the entrails of a chicken.

Faith means making a virtue out of not thinking. It's nothing to brag about. And those who preach faith and enable and elevate it are our intellectual slave holders, keeping mankind in a bondage to fantasy and nonsense that has spawned and justified so much lunacy and destruction.

Religion is dangerous because it allows human beings who don't have all the answers to think that they do. Most people would think it's wonderful when someone says "I'm willing Lord, to do whatever you want me to do". But since there are no actual gods talking to us, that void is filled in by people with their own corruptions and limitations and agendas.

This is why rational people, anti-religionists, must end their timidity and come out of the closet and assert themselves. And those who consider themselves only moderately religious really need to look in the mirror and recognize that the solace and comfort that religion brings you actually comes at a terrible price.

If you belonged to a political party or a social club that was tied to as much bigotry, misogyny, violence and sheer ignorance as religion is, you'd resign in protest. To do otherwise is to be an enabler, a mafia wife for the true devils of extremism that draw their legitimacy from the millions of their fellow followers.

Ignorance more frequently begets confidence than does knowledge: it is those who know little, not those who know much, who so positively assert that this or that problem will never be solved by science.
-- Charles Darwin

If the history of science teaches us anything, it is that what conquers our ignorance is research, not giving up and attributing our ignorance to the miraculous work of a creator.
-- Jerry Coyne

Science is a philosophy of discovery, intelligent design is a philosophy of ignorance.

  1. In the spirit of c&p I offer this, which I'm c&p-ing from The Atheist Experience blog:

    http://pandasthumb.org/archives/2011/06/help-talkorigin.html

Here's a link about helping TalkOrigins bid for the rights to "Expelled." The auction is on Tuesday, June 28th.

"Today, the TalkOrigins Archive Foundation approved a resolution to use our funds on hand to put in a bid on “Expelled”. We hope to make many of the materials freely available and to collaborate with other groups seeking to produce rebuttals to claims made in “Expelled”. To that end, we would like your help. Our final bid amount will be determined by funds on hand and what has come in via our PayPal donation button by Monday, June 27th. This is because there are delays in transfers between PayPal and the bank, and (hopefully!) we’ll need to pay out of our bank account."

There is a link to their paypal account in the link above.

  2. Money used to buy the Expelled movie would go to the slimy dishonest idiots who own it, and I don't see how that's a good thing.

I personally think it's inappropriate to ask people to give their money away, no matter how worthy the cause is.

By the way, Ms. LadyAtheist has the best blog on the internet: http://ladyatheist.blogspot.com/
