Some stuff from the New York Times about President Biden. The only thing I care about is the free $1,400.00 I don't need.

Biden barrels ahead

With Donald Trump’s impeachment trial over, President Biden plans to quickly push his agenda, allies say, starting with the passage of a $1.9 trillion coronavirus relief plan before moving on to an even bigger agenda that includes infrastructure, immigration, criminal justice reform, climate change and health care.

To kick off the new era in Washington, Mr. Biden is escaping it — embarking on trips to Wisconsin and Michigan to rally support for his agenda.

Tonight in Milwaukee, at 9 Eastern, he will participate in a CNN town hall in which he is expected to tout his proposal to send $1,400 checks to individuals struggling during the pandemic. On Thursday, Mr. Biden will travel to Kalamazoo, Mich., to tour a Pfizer plant and meet workers producing the company’s coronavirus vaccine.

Mr. Biden’s first official trips as president are meant to focus on the coronavirus and the economy. Without the spectacle of a constitutional clash, the new president “takes center stage now in a way that the first few weeks didn’t allow,” said Jennifer Palmieri, who served as communications director for President Barack Obama. She said the end of the impeachment trial means that “2021 can finally start.”

CNN article about Pence and Trump. An interesting fact: In 2016 I voted for Hillary Clinton so this disaster was not my fault.

Pence has not ruled out 25th Amendment, source says

By Jim Acosta and Pamela Brown, CNN

Saturday, January 9, 2021

(CNN)Vice President Mike Pence has not ruled out an effort to invoke the 25th Amendment and wants to preserve the option in case President Donald Trump becomes more unstable, a source close to the vice president says.

The source said there is some concern inside Pence's team that there are risks to invoking the 25th Amendment or even to an impeachment process, as Trump could take some sort of rash action putting the nation at risk.

As of Saturday evening, Trump and Pence still have not spoken since the Wednesday incursion at the US Capitol that left five people dead, including a Capitol Police officer, another source told CNN. The President has also not made any public comments denouncing death threats that have been posted on social media targeting Pence.

Pence has finally "gotten a glimpse of POTUS's vindictiveness," one source said, using the acronym for President of the United States.

Two sources familiar with the matter say Trump is angry at Pence and Pence is disappointed and saddened by Trump.

Trump put Pence in an impossible position, asking him to overturn the election results during Wednesday's joint session of Congress. When Pence explained that he could not do that and sent a letter to members of Congress that he would follow the Constitution, Trump used his Wednesday rally to egg on the crowd, telling them to march on Capitol Hill, and said of his vice president, "Mike Pence, I hope you're gonna stand up for the good of our Constitution and for the good of our country, and if you're not, I'm going to be very disappointed in you, I will tell you right now. I'm not hearing good stories."

"Dividends have disappeared this year. Will they ever come back?" This is not a problem for me. My AT&T dividend income is very safe.

Dividends have disappeared this year. Will they ever come back?

By Hanna Ziady, CNN Business

Updated Sunday, May 17, 2020

Dividend payouts could tumble by nearly $500 billion this year, a steeper drop than during the global financial crisis, as the worst global recession in decades is forcing companies to preserve cash.
The damage to dividends could endure well beyond the coronavirus pandemic, analysts say, as companies around the world facing a historic collapse in revenue consider permanently shoring up their cash buffers.

After hitting a record $1.43 trillion in 2019, global dividend payouts could plummet by as much as 35% this year, or some $497 billion, according to a report released Monday by asset manager Janus Henderson. That would outstrip the 30% drop observed during the 2008 global financial crisis, said investment director for global equity income, Jane Shoemake.

If dividends are cut by only those companies that have already announced withdrawals, or are very likely to, dividend payouts will decline 15% this year to $1.2 trillion, the report finds.

"Dividend suspensions are inevitable due to the sudden, unprecedented halt in economic activity in many countries," Ben Lofthouse, co-manager of global equity income at Janus Henderson said in a research note. "Some of the impact will spread into 2021, which is now likely to see lower payouts than we might have expected before the pandemic."

Stock market news. Monday, March 16, 2020.

New York (CNN Business)Global stock markets plunged Monday as investors were unnerved by drastic action from the US Federal Reserve to cushion the blow from coronavirus and as data showed the outbreak has caused an unprecedented economic collapse in China.
Markets were battered across Asia, with Australia's benchmark index crashing nearly 10% in its worst day on record. In Europe, London's FTSE 100 (UKX) fell 7% in early trading, while France's CAC 40 (CAC40) and Germany's DAX (DAX) dropped roughly 9%.
US markets were poised to suffer heavy losses. Dow (INDU) futures were last down 1,041 points, or about 4.5%. S&P 500 (SPX) futures slumped 4.8%, while Nasdaq (COMP) futures shed 4.5%. There are now more than 3,000 cases of the novel coronavirus in the United States, according to government agencies and the CDC.
Investors bailed out of stocks despite a massive intervention by the US Federal Reserve on Sunday. The central bank slashed rates to close to zero at an emergency meeting, and said it would purchase another $700 billion worth of Treasury bonds and mortgage-backed securities.
The shock rate cut is designed to prevent the economic shock leading to the kind of credit crunch and financial market disruptions that occurred during the global financial crisis — the last time the Fed cut rates all the way to the bottom.
"I don't think [the Fed] would have done this unless they felt the financial markets were at significant risk of freezing up tomorrow. They're very concerned the financial markets won't work. So I don't know how the markets take solace in this," Mark Zandi, chief economist of Moody's Analytics, told CNN Business.
On Monday, airline stocks were badly hit as they announced waves of flight cancellations in response to global travel restrictions. Air France KLM (AFLYY) opened 12% lower and IAG (ICAGY), owner of British Airways, fell 16%.
Brent crude, the global benchmark for oil, declined 6% to $31.83 per barrel.

    Rough day in Asia

Markets in Asia Pacific were rocked by data showing the Chinese economy has been hit harder than expected by the coronavirus outbreak.
Retail sales in China plunged 20.5% in the January-to-February period from a year earlier, much worse than the forecast 0.8% rise by analysts polled by Reuters, according to the National Bureau of Statistics. Industrial output also fell 13.5% during the same period, while fixed asset investment plunged 24.5%, both widely missing estimates.
Mao Xinyong, a spokesman for the National Bureau of Statistics, said at a press conference that China will increase policy support to counter the virus' impact, including active fiscal measures and prudent monetary measures to support businesses, as well as special policies to protect jobs.
But that failed to calm investors. Hong Kong's Hang Seng Index (HSI) dropped 4%, while Japan's Nikkei 225 (N225) shed 2.5%. China's Shanghai Composite (SHCOMP) dropped 3.4%.
The People's Bank of China on Monday pumped 100 billion yuan ($14.3 billion) into the financial system by offering loans to banks. On Friday, the central bank announced it would cut the amount of cash banks need to hold as reserves, injecting around 550 billion yuan ($78.6 billion) into the economy.
The central bank also said it would take other measures to lower borrowing costs to protect the economy that has been damaged by the coronavirus outbreak.
Elsewhere, the Bank of Japan announced Monday it would hold a one-day policy meeting later in the day, to replace the scheduled meeting on Tuesday and Wednesday. The Reserve Bank of Australia also said Monday it stands ready to purchase Australian government bonds to support the market. It said further policy measure will come out on Thursday.
Global monetary policy support is coming "thick and heavy," said Stephen Innes, global chief markets strategist at AxiCorp.
But the biggest concern is that the the world's top central banks have exhausted their policy tool kit, especially the Fed, the biggest and most influential one of them all, he said.
"The markets now appear kind of defenseless to another selling onslaught, so the fiscal step is crucial in avoiding a dreaded global credit event," Innes added.

Dow futures drop over 1,000 points after Trump's coronavirus plan fails to impress investors

By Clare Duffy, Sherisse Pham and Julia Horowitz, CNN Business

Updated 6:14 AM ET, Thursday, March 12, 2020

New York/Hong Kong/London (CNN Business)US stock futures plummeted Thursday after President Donald Trump used a national address on the coronavirus to announce a ban on most travel from Europe, but failed to deliver the comprehensive economic and medical response to the outbreak that investors are craving.

Dow (INDU) futures plunged more than 1,000 points, or 4.6%. S&P 500 (SPX) futures are down 4.3% and Nasdaq (COMP) futures dropped 4.5%.

The pain extended to global markets. London's FTSE 100 (UKX) dropped 5.3%, Germany's DAX (DAX) declined 5.5% and France's CAC 40 shed 5.4%. Italy's benchmark stock index, which has dropped 18% this week, fell another 5.1%.

Australia's S&P/ASX 200, which entered a bear market on Wednesday, sank 7.4%. The Shanghai Composite Index (SHCOMP) ended the day down 1.5%. Hong Kong's Hang Seng Index (HSI) finished 3.7% lower, while South Korea's Kospi Index (KOSPI) closed down 3.9%. Both indexes are flirting with bear market territory.

Brent crude futures, the global oil benchmark, were down nearly 5.3%, last trading at $33,90 per barrel.

The travel ban announced by Trump will run for 30 days, and is intended to insulate Americans from the coronavirus outbreak. The measure takes effect Friday at midnight and applies to countries in the Schengen Area, a zone without border controls that includes Italy, Germany, France, Spain and 22 other nations. The United Kingdom is not included.

Investors are struggling to see the endgame and "traders are hammering the sell button now thinking the US government has fallen well behind the curve in its [coronavirus] response," said Stephen Innes, a market strategist at AxiCorp.

      Initial confusion

Trump's announcement — made during a televised address on Wednesday — initially sowed confusion. He described the suspension as affecting "Europe," rather than the specific collection of countries that US authorities later clarified.

The president also said that the "prohibitions would not only apply to the tremendous amount of trade and cargo, but various other things as we get approval," but later corrected himself on Twitter to say that "trade will in no way be affected" by the travel restriction.

"The restriction stops people not goods," he said.

And US citizens and permanent residents who are in Europe will still be allowed back into the United States during the 30-day period, though will be screened upon entry and face quarantine or restrictions on their movement.

Even so, it remains unclear whether airlines will still fly the routes if passenger demand from European nationals dries up because of the ban.

"Travel restrictions equal slower global economic activity, so if you need any more coaxing to sell sell sell sell after a massively negative signal from overnight trading in US markets it just fell in your lap," Innes wrote.

European airline stocks were hammered in early trading, with Air France KLM (AFLYY) shares losing 14% and British Airways owner IAG (ICAGY) dropping more than 10%. Shares of Delta (DAL) are down 12% in premarket trading, while American Airlines (AAL)' stock is off nearly 16%.

      Disappointed markets

In his speech, Trump spelled out some other areas where he hopes to bolster a flagging economy, including deferring tax payments for some individuals and companies.

He said he would seek to provide "unprecedented" action that would allow sick workers to stay home and still be paid.

And he called on Congress to provide payroll tax relief to Americans, though that idea has been met with some resistance on Capitol Hill.

But Trump didn't include many concrete measures to support the economy, wrote Jeffrey Halley, a market analyst with Oanda, in a research note. Investors were hoping for a much larger economic rescue package, and a comprehensive medical plan to address the threat posed by the coronavirus.

"That has probably disappointed markets more than anything," Halley added.

The declines followed another volatile day on Wall Street in a roller coaster week for the markets driven by the novel coronavirus outbreak and plummeting oil prices. There are now more than 115,000 cases worldwide. More than 4,000 people have died.

Both the S&P 500 and the Dow slipped into bear market territory, but only the Dow closed the day in a bear market.

Two other key market indexes, the Dow Jones Transportation Average (DJT) and the small-cap focused Russell 2000 (RUT), are already in a bear market.

Initial reports indicate multiple US casualties in Afghanistan attack

By Barbara Starr, CNN Pentagon Correspondent

Updated 8:29 PM ET, Sat February 8, 2020

(CNN) Initial reports indicate there are multiple US casualties after an attack on a joint US-Afghanistan operation in the Nangarhar province in eastern Afghanistan on Saturday, one defense official told CNN.

The official cannot say how many US service members may be dead or wounded. And as is often the case early in these incidents, information could change as more details are learned.
The US military is saying very little officially.

"A combined U.S. and Afghan force conducting an operation in Nangarhar province was engaged by direct fire on Feb. 8. We are assessing the situation and will provide further updates as they become available," Col. Sonny Leggett, spokesman for the US forces in Afghanistan, said in a statement.
Between 12,000 and 13,000 US troops are currently serving in Afghanistan fighting terrorist groups and assisting local forces in the country.

The Trump administration is weighing further significant troop reductions in Afghanistan, despite a record high number of attacks carried out in the country last year by the Taliban and other anti-government groups.

Here is another reason the Democrats have to nominate Mike Bloomberg if they want to get rid of Fucktard Trump.

Dow Futures Skyrocket as Iowa Disaster Gifts Trump Another Victory

As the Democrat campaign descends into chaos, Trump emerges united and victorious. Stock markets rallied on hopes that Trump will secure the White House for a second term.

The complete voting shambles at the Iowa caucus is a Democratic meltdown gift-wrapped and hand-delivered to Donald Trump.

Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJIA) futures jumped 300 points higher on Tuesday.

Stock market gets another “Trump bump” as the president takes a step closer to re-election.

The Democrat campaign descends into embarrassment in Iowa as no winner announced.

Stock market futures just got a huge “Trump bump” as the president looks increasingly likely to secure re-election in 2020. Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJIA) futures are up 300 points after a chaotic and embarrassing night for the Democrats in Iowa.

An “inconsistency” in Iowa’s caucus voting system leaves the Democrats without a clear winner on Tuesday [CNN]. The debacle all-but hands Trump the momentum going into the 2020 presidential election and the stock markets are rejoicing [Jim Cramer on Twitter].

“I think the complete disarray of the Iowa Democratic Caucus and the acknowledgment that in 48 hours impeachment is over is playing a big role in the strength of the market” – Jim Cramer, CNBC.

Dow Futures Rocket 300 Points Higher

Dow futures contracts [Yahoo charts] skyrocketed almost 300 points higher on Tuesday, making it two-straight days in the green.

      Democrat Disaster In Iowa

The Democrat embarrassment in Iowa leaves Trump and the Republicans reveling in victory. The Republicans emerge united while the Democrats missed a huge opportunity to drive momentum.

Trump supporters will use the Iowa disaster to mock the Democrat campaign and discredit whichever candidate does emerge as the winner. Members of the Trump campaign are already suggesting it was “rigged” [Twitter] and rallying Trump supporters to question the whole system [Fox News].

“Democrat party meltdown. They can’t even run a caucus and they want to run the government. No thank you” – Brad Parscale, campaign manager. In a later statement, he added, “It would be natural for people to doubt the fairness of the process.”

It’s a tried-and-tested Trump technique that strengthens his base. Elizabeth Warren’s campaign appeared to admit as much.

“With every passing minute that there is a delay, we worry that the process will lose credibility.”

Dow Jones Gets A Trump Bump

Trump’s momentum coming out of the Iowa caucus is crucial for the Dow Jones.

It’s no secret the stock market favours a Trump presidency. Wall Street players have fallen over themselves to predict disaster under the Democrats while Trump uses the Dow Jones as a proxy for his own success.

The events in Iowa gift Trump the momentum going into 2020 and the stock market is riding the wave.

We Won’t Know Anything Until Later Tuesday

At the time of writing, the Democrats still haven’t announced a winner from the Iowa caucuses. We’re expecting an announcement later in the day on Tuesday.

Sanders, Warren, Biden, and Klobuchar all took the opportunity to boast about the strength of their internal numbers. While former mayor South Bend, Ind. Pete Buttigieg pretty much declared victory [Telegraph].

“By all indications, we are going to on New Hampshire victorious.”

No matter who emerges victorious, the winner has already missed the window of opportunity. The crucial Iowa momentum that once helped propel Obama to the White House has gone and the Democrats are on the back foot.

Illinois cannabis sales bring in $3.2 million on day one

      By Alicia Wallace, CNN Business

Updated 4:33 PM ET, Thursday, January 2, 2020

(CNN Business) Illinois' first day of legal recreational cannabis translated to a good chunk of green -- nearly $3.2 million in sales.

The state's 37 dispensaries churned through 77,128 transactions to tally more than $3.17 million in first-day sales, said Toi Hutchinson, Governor JB Prtizker's senior adviser for cannabis control, in a news conference on Thursday.

"The amazing thing about that is that there's a significant portion of these dollars that go directly into this community reinvestment fund, so we can continue to rebuild communities that have been hardest hit by the war on drugs," Hutchinson said. "So sales are great but let's never lose sight on the impact that we're having on families around this state."

Last year, Illinois made history when it became the first state to legalize adult-use cannabis via a legislative measure. Its regulations also have been heralded for addressing social justice and social equity concerns. Earlier this week, Prtizker expunged 11,017 records for misdemeanor cannabis convictions.

On Wednesday, people came out in droves for Illinois' first day of legal weed sales, with hundreds lining up outside dispensaries in the bitterly cold early morning. States such as Colorado and California also saw similar scenes on their first days of legal recreational cannabis sales in 2014 and 2018, respectively.

"This is one of those moments where we recognize that the significance of yesterday was that it was the end of prohibition and the beginning of how we hope to grow a new industry here in Illinois and then teach other states how to do it," Hutchinson said.

Illinois is the 11th US state to legalize the sale of cannabis to adults for recreational purposes.

In November 2020 Mike Bloomberg will defeat Fucktard Trump. His doctor said his health is outstanding.

Michael Bloomberg releases letter from doctor that says he is in 'outstanding health'

By Kate Sullivan, Cristina Alesci and Jamie Gumbrecht, CNN

      Thursday, December 12, 2019

Washington (CNN) -- Former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg's campaign on Thursday released a letter from the candidate's doctor that says he is in "outstanding health" with no medical conditions that would prevent him from serving as president.

The Democratic candidate underwent a coronary stent placement in 2000 for a blocked artery, according to the letter, signed by Dr. Stephen D. Sisson, a professor of medicine with Johns Hopkins University.

Bloomberg has had annual cardiac stress testing since the stent placement, and his 2019 test was "normal and demonstrated excellent exercise tolerance," the letter says.

The former mayor is on a blood thinner after developing atrial fibrillation in the setting of otherwise normal heart function in 2018, according to the letter. Atrial fibrillation is an irregular heartbeat. It can lead to blood clots, stroke, heart failure and other heart-related complications. According to the American Heart Association, at least 2.7 million Americans are living with atrial fibrillation, and the most common treatment is medication.

The letter notes Bloomberg takes blood thinners, beta-blockers and cholesterol medication, but does not note specific medications or dosages. All these medications are commonly prescribed to manage heart conditions and cholesterol.

"Mr. Bloomberg is a 77-year-old man in outstanding health. There are no medical concerns, present or looming, that would prevent him from serving as President of the United States," the letter reads.

Bloomberg is 5 feet 7 inches tall and 165 pounds with "a muscular body mass index of 25.8kg/m2," according to the letter. A BMI of 25 to 29.9 is considered overweight, according to the National Institutes of Health. BMI is determined by dividing a person's weight in kilograms by the square of their height in meters.

Bloomberg doesn't smoke and does not have a history of substance use disorder or unhealthy alcohol use, the letter says.

"His diet and health habits are excellent," the letter reads.

The campaign's letter summarized Bloomberg's health, though it did not include medical records. Last week, Elizabeth Warren's campaign released its own letter, along with results of the senator's most recent annual physical exam.

Bloomberg announced a late-entry presidential bid last month aimed squarely at defeating President Donald Trump. His pitch to voters is that Trump is more likely to get reelected if Bloomberg doesn't run, suggesting none of the other Democratic contenders can beat Trump.

In Idiot America, if you're going to watch a football game and you don't want to be killed, you should watch it inside your home with all doors locked.

At least 10 people were shot, 4 fatally, at a backyard football watch party in Fresno, California

By Hollie Silverman and Alta Spells, CNN

Updated 6:54 AM ET, Mon November 18, 2019

(CNN) A group of family and friends were gathered in a backyard Sunday to watch a football game when a gunman walked up and began shooting, killing four people and wounding six others, according to authorities in Fresno, California.

About 35 to 40 people were at the house, including several children, when the suspect -- who remains on the loose -- started shooting into the crowd, according to police.

First-responders arrived at the home around 8 p.m. after receiving multiple 911 calls and found "three people down" and several suffering gunshot wounds, Fresno Police Deputy Chief Michael Reid told reporters. Officers immediately began performing CPR.

There was no immediate indication the suspect knew the victims, according to Reid.

The four men who died were between the ages of 25 and 30, according to Reid. Three of them were pronounced dead at the scene. The other was transported to Community Regional Medical Center where he died of his injuries.

Five additional victims were taken to CRMC with non-life threatening gunshot wounds, Reid said. One other man was taken to a different hospital where he is being treated for a graze wound.

"My heart goes out to the families that are victims of this senseless violence," Reid said. "We are going to do everything we can to find out who the perpetrators are and bring them to justice."

No suspect information or suspect vehicle descriptions were available, Fresno Police Lt. Bill Dooley said at an earlier briefing.

Police are going door-to-door looking for surveillance footage that could help the investigation and witnesses who may have information on the suspect, according to Dooley.

There was no history of calls for service at the home where the shooting took place, Reid said.

This is a developing story. More to come.

(CNN) A 30-year-old woman is recovering after falling more than 5,000 feet from a plane.

The woman, whose name was not released, was skydiving Saturday near Trois-Rivières, Quebec, when her main and backup parachutes failed to open. She plummeted into a wooded area, and she is in the hospital with several fractures, including broken vertebrae, CNN affiliate CBC reported. Trois-Rivières Police said her life isn't in danger.

Denis Demers, who saw the incident play out, told CBC that the solo skydiver was falling faster than anybody else.

"It's a miracle," Demers said. "I don't know how a person can survive a fall from an airplane like that."

Océane Duplessis was about to board a plane for her own jump when she saw the accident. She told CBC that she "watched all the way to the end."

"We kept hoping something would happen," she added. "We were very worried. Very."

Police said the woman had experience skydiving. An investigation is underway to determine whether it is a case of criminal negligence.

Skydiving injuries are rare. In the US, the United States Parachute Association says, there was approximately 1 injury out of every 1,536 skydives in 2018 -- just 0.07% of all jumps.

Dow plunges 600 points after China devalues its currency

      By Anneken Tappe, CNN Business

Updated 11:02 AM ET, Monday August 5, 2019

      New York (CNN Business)

The Dow tumbled more than 600 points and global stocks were in disarray on Monday after China escalated the trade war with the United States.

The Chinese government devalued the yuan to fall below its 7-to-1 ratio with the US dollar for the first time in a decade Monday. A weaker currency could soften the blow the United States has dealt China with its tariffs.

The cheaper yuan ignited fear on Wall Street that the United States would respond with even higher tariffs, prolonging the standoff with China and potentially weakening the global economy. Investors are particularly concerned that the Trump administration could try to devalue the dollar, sparking a currency war that could weaken Americans' purchasing power.

"Risks of Trump intervening in foreign exchange markets have increased with China letting the yuan go," wrote Viraj Patel, FX and global macro strategist at Arkera, on Twitter. "If this was an all out currency war - the US would hands down lose. Beijing [is] far more advanced in playing the currency game [and has] bigger firepower."

President Donald Trump once again called China a currency manipulator on Monday, saying the yuan devaluation was a "major violation." Trump has long attacked China for its currency policy, even though the Treasury has refrained from officially labeling the country a currency manipulator.

Stocks and bond yields are sharply lower

US stocks were sharply lower, with the Dow (INDU) falling more than 600 points, sinking below 26,000 points. The S&P 500 (SPX) traded 2.3% lower, while the Nasdaq Composite (COMP) fell 3%.

The last time the Nasdaq lost as much as 3% was May 13. If the Nasdaq closes lower Monday, it will have logged its longest losing streak since November 2016, when it fell for nine-consecutive days in the lead-up to the presidential election.

The S&P 500 is on track for six consecutive down days for the first time since October, while the Dow is on track for its longest losing streak since March. Last week, the S&P 500 and the Nasdaq Composite logged their worst week of the year last week.

Hit particularly hard were tech stocks. Apple (AAPL), Intel (INTC), Microsoft (MSFT), Nvidia (NVDA)and Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) were among the biggest losers on Monday.
The VIX (VIX) volatility index soared more than 25%. The CNN Business Fear & Greed Index is indicating "Extreme Fear."

Asian markets all fell more than 1.6% Monday, and Hong Kong's Hang Seng closed down 2.9% as protests continue in the region. In Europe, London's FTSE 100 declined more than 2%. Germany's DAX and France' Cac 40 are both down more than 1%.

US government bonds rose and yields fell as traders looked for safe investments. The 10-year Treasury yield declined to 1.7650%. The yield curve — the difference between shorter and longer-term bond yields — grew the widest since April 2007. That inversion of the yield curve has predated every past recession.

      Escalating the trade war

The yuan weakened sharply after the People's Bank of China set its daily reference rate for the currency at 6.9225, the lowest rate since December. The central bank said in a statement that Monday's weakness was mostly because of "trade protectionism and new tariffs on China." President Donald Trump threatened a new round of tariffs on the country last week.

Devaluing the yuan is one way China has of retaliating against the tariffs. A weaker currency helps Chinese manufacturers offset the costs of higher tariffs.
Analysts at Capital Economics said the move showed that Beijing has "all but abandoned" hopes for a trade deal with the United States.

In US economic data, the non-manufacturing index for July from the Institute of Supply Management undercut consensus expectations, which didn't help matters.

This atrocity was last year when I still lived in south Florida, only 8 miles from the school that was shot up by an asshole. Here in the northwestern Illinois farm town where I live now, people are civilized.

This is what Scot Peterson did during the Parkland school shooting

      By Nicole Chavez, CNN

Updated 8:32 PM ET, Tue June 4, 2019

Footage from the school surveillance cameras showed Peterson positioned outside of the school.

Last year, authorities released an edited 27-minute video with portions of surveillance video from that day.

The video begins with Peterson, wearing his deputy's uniform, standing between two buildings on campus talking to another adult, then appearing to speak into a radio handset on his shoulder.

He walks off screen, but a few minutes later, Peterson appears from another angle positioned outside a building. Students, whose images are pixelated, walk into the frame and then out of it.

In past interviews, DiRuzzo said Peterson believed the gunshots were coming from outside the building.

He hid for more than 45 minutes

Peterson arrived at the 1200 building -- where the massacre took place -- and then moved 75 feet to a "position of increased personal safety" near the 700 and 800 buildings, an arrest warrant affidavit said.

The warrant says Peterson stayed there for more than 45 minutes.
During that time, the gunman killed five students and one teacher, authorities said.

      He did report hearing gunshots

While he was outside the building, Peterson got on his radio and took a position where he could see the western entry, Former Broward County Sheriff Scott Israel had said.

Though his attorney said Peterson wasn't sure where the shots were coming from, he can be heard in dispatch audio released last year saying, "I think we have shots fired, possible shots fired, 1200 building."

Immediately after the shooting, responding officers scrambled to the scene but appeared to be following commands from Peterson to close the road in front of the school and set up a perimeter.

He was widely criticized by officials

In the immediate aftermath of the shooting, Peterson was publicly shamed by then-Broward County Sheriff Scott Israel as well as President Donald Trump.

Trump called him a coward and criticized him on several occasions.

"When it came time to get in there and do something, he didn't have the courage or something happened, but he certainly did a poor job. There's no question about that," Trump said of Peterson on the White House South Lawn, days after the shooting.

"Let there be no mistake, Mr. Peterson wishes that he could have prevented the untimely passing of the seventeen victims on that day, and his heart goes out to the families of the victims in their time of need," his lawyer, DiRuzzo, said in a statement last year.

"However, the allegations that Mr. Peterson was a coward and that his performance, under the circumstances, failed to meet the standards of police officers are patently untrue."

Thanks to Jerry Coyne's website (which is much better than this blog and people actually read it) I found another book to read which is about America's deranged President.

Jerry Coyne's website - The White House is even more screwed up than you can imagine

CNN - Bob Woodward: Trump's aides stole his papers 'to protect the country'

AMAZON - "Fear: Trump in the White House" by Bob Woodward

I keep promising myself to stop buying books but I will have to buy this one.

      ••••••••••••••••••••••••••••

Woodward offers a devastating portrait of a dysfunctional Trump White House, detailing how senior aides — both current and former Trump administration officials — grew exasperated with the President and increasingly worried about his erratic behavior, ignorance and penchant for lying.

Chief of staff John Kelly describes Trump as an “idiot” and “unhinged,” Woodward reports. Defense Secretary James Mattis describes Trump as having the understanding of “a fifth or sixth grader.” And Trump’s former personal lawyer John Dowd describes the President as “a fucking liar,” telling Trump he would end up in an “orange jump suit” if he testified to special counsel Robert Mueller.

“He’s an idiot. It’s pointless to try to convince him of anything. He’s gone off the rails. We’re in crazytown,” Kelly is quoted as saying at a staff meeting in his office. “I don’t even know why any of us are here. This is the worst job I’ve ever had.”

      ••••••••••••••••••••••••••••

Throughout the book, Woodward portrays the President as a man obsessed with his standing in the media and with his core supporters. Trump appears to be lonely and increasingly paranoid, often watching hours of television in the White House residence. "They're out to get me," Trump said of Mueller's team.

      ••••••••••••••••••••••••••••

The Democrats need to impeach our fucktard president before it's too late. He never wanted the job. He never thought he could win. I think even Trump knew he wasn't qualified for the job. He certainly was not prepared for the war against him which might be why he has become batshit crazy.

The Republican politicians need to grow up and do the right thing. They should help the Democrats get the job done. Throw this fucking asshole out the window.

      ••••••••••••••••••••••••••••

I was curious about what the Wall Street Journal wrote about this book. I was not surprised to see bullshit. Mr. Woodward did not make things up. By the way a book by Woodward helped get Nixon impeached. His new book will do the same thing to Trump. Here is the Wall Street Journal bullshit. This was all I could see because I cancelled my subscription. There are too many fucktards at that place.

White House Calls Woodward Book ‘Nothing More Than Fabricated Lies’

White House Chief of Staff John Kelly has denounced Bob Woodward’s book on the Trump presidency, saying “the idea I ever called the president an idiot is not true.”
