You wrote "I was raised in a very conservative Christian environment and taught Young-Earth Creationism (anti-evolution, anti-Big Bang, etc.). I bought into it for a long time. In college, I finally began to investigate some of the claims for myself---reading what was _really_ being said by 'the other side', rather than what I was being told was being said."
You're a rare exception. Most brainwashed Christians continue living in their childish magical fantasy world their entire lives, never knowing what they are or where they came from. Unlike you, they get all their science information filtered by professional liars for Jeebus, and they never learn anything.
Try convincing a Christian creationist to read Jerry Coyne's masterpiece Why Evolution is True. They will use any excuse to not look at it. Christians are called willfully ignorant for a good reason. They go out of their way to know nothing about reality.

I hope you didn't watch that "not overtly religious" service (according to some TV talking head) tonight. You might need resucitation!
