Today, February 12, 2013, there are three holidays. Mardi Gras in New Orleans, Abraham Lincoln's birthday, and Charles Darwin's birthday.

In New Orleans Mardi Gras is the most important holiday of the year. It's sort of a religious holiday because it's always on the day before Ash Wednesday. The last time I was at the Mardi Gras in New Orleans the streets were entirely covered with empty beer cans. At the airport they sell beer with a sign that says in Louisiana it's legal to drink before you drive and it's legal to drink while you drive. Really.

Today is also the birthday of Abraham Lincoln who was born February 12, 1809, 204 years ago. Virtually every American agrees Mr. Lincoln was the greatest president in our history. Last night on TV I saw an excellent 1940 movie about Lincoln which was about his life up until the day he was elected to be president. If you're an American you must see it. Abe Lincoln in Illinois

On the exact same day in the exact same year, February 12, 1809, Charles Darwin was born. What are the odds?

Obviously I'm a big fan of Mr. Darwin. Abe Lincoln was our best president, but Mr. Darwin was the most important person in human history. Many thanks to the British people for giving the world Mr. Darwin.

Charles Darwin is the father of modern biology and that's a big deal. But even more important is he changed the world by proving the human race's worst mistake, the god fairy fantasy, is totally unnecessary.

In Jerry Coyne's Why Evolution is True there are numerous important quotes, especially this one:

"Darwin was the first to use data from nature to convince people that evolution is true, and his idea of natural selection was truly novel. It testifies to his genius that the concept of natural theology, accepted by most educated Westerners before 1859, was vanquished within only a few years by a single five-hundred-page book. On the Origin of Species turned the mysteries of life's diversity from mythology into genuine science." -- Jerry Coyne

Many people who lived when Origin of Species was published said about natural selection "Why didn't I think of that?" It's a simple but brilliant concept and Darwin spent many years accumulating evidence for it. Today Natural Selection is still considered to be the most important mechanism of evolution. Darwin's greatest idea is now stronger than ever.

The name of this blog, Darwin killed God, is the best thing that ever happened to our species. And guess who is providing the most evidence for Darwin killed God. It's the science denying assholes, including the Bible thumpers of America and the Muslims who fly airplanes into buildings. Their irrational fear of evolutionary biology shows beyond any doubt evolution has killed every religious fantasy ever invented.

It's interesting the Christians who accept evolution feel they have to stick the Magic Jeebus Man in there somewhere. These theistic evolutionists are full of shit. Everyone who isn't an idiot knows supernatural magic is not a mechanism of any natural process, especially evolution. The Christians stick Jeebus in there anyway because they know evolution kills their ridiculous cult.

It's been 154 years since Darwin changed the world with On the Origin of Species. It might be another two centuries before everyone gets the Darwin killed God memo. But it's inevitable. Science always wins because it works.
