Mr. Weinberg was talking about the Muslim war against science education which is a lot like the Christian war against the same thing, except the Muslims have been much more successful. For example in some Muslim countries evolution is not taught at all, not even in universities. It's for a good reason Muslim countries are extremely backward. They still live in the  Dark Ages.

What motivates Christians and Muslims to attack the teaching of evolution? Of course they fear the religious implications but is that a good reason to destroy science education for everyone else? Do biologists tell preachers and clerics they can't teach magical creationism in their churches and mosques?

The only explanation I can think of is Christian and Muslims are terrified of evolution. They're not just worried about it. They are afraid. So they fight it with every morally corrupt technique they can think of, including lying about science and scientists, threatening biology teachers, electing anti-science school board members, and trying to get legislation passed that would dumb down the teaching of evolution.

In America one of their favorite excuses for their attacks against education is "evolution is a religion therefore it's a violation of the Establishment Clause to teach it" as if evolutionary biology is a religious cult and not a branch of science.

Not long ago scientists and science teachers where I live in Florida wrote new public school science standards that made evolution one of the big ideas of science. When the new standards were presented to the public for comments, virtually every know-nothing preacher hick in the state complained about it. Even school board members complained about it, as if it's the responsibility of school boards to prevent the teaching of science. Also, our Christian politicians complained about the word evolution appearing the new standards.

The new science standards were eventually approved with virtually no changes. There was a long debate about it. Science won thanks to relentless ridicule of the Christian scum who obviously were cowardly stupid assholes who didn't know anything about science.

Religious insanity can't be fixed. It's impossible to reason with idiots. To keep the theocratic assholes under control the only thing that works is never ending ridicule. The time for being nice to religious morons is over with.
