The title of this post is a quote from Jerry Coyne. All of science threatens the god fantasy, but evolution is what worries the Bible thumpers and the terrorists the most. The facts of evolutionary biology show that the human ape species is not the big fucking deal the thumpers think it is. This terrifies the theists who think we are a chosen species, completely separate from nature, and only we will live in a magical paradise. Evolution kills heaven and every other religious fantasy. And evolution completely eliminates any reason to believe a magical god was ever necessary for anything.
Because science threatens religion there will always be a religious war against it. Unfortunately for the theist idiots who still live in the Dark Ages, science always wins.
