I wrote this comment at Legislators need to stop their interference in education which is about the Tennessee politicians who are trying to destroy science education to accommodate their dead Jeebus.
"As for 'only teaching' the THEORY that man evolved from lower life forms, allowing no discussion, how does this advance the critical thinking of our school children?"
One of your misconceptions is other species are "lower life forms". Two quotes to help you understand:
You know, there’s this pervasive idea in biology that I think is wrong. It goes: we humans are at the pinnacle of the evolutionary tree, and as you get up that tree, brain size must get bigger. But a fly is just as evolved as a human. It’s just evolved to a different niche.
-- Jeremy Niven
Humans aren't high on the evolutionary scale…there is no evolutionary scale. We aren't the pinnacle of anything.
-- PZ Myers
Your other misconception is you obviously don't know what a scientific theory is. Another quote explains it:
THEORY: In science, a well-substantiated explanation of some aspect of the natural world that can incorporate facts, laws, inferences, and tested hypotheses. The contention that evolution should be taught as a "theory, not as a fact" confuses the common use of these words with the scientific use. In science, theories do not turn into facts through the accumulation of evidence. Rather, theories are the end points of science. They are understandings that develop from extensive observation, experimentation, and creative reflection. They incorporate a large body of scientific facts, laws, tested hypotheses, and logical inferences. In this sense, evolution is one of the strongest and most useful scientific theories we have.
-- National Academy of Sciences
Your complaint about "allowing no discussion" is interesting. What discussion did you want? I'm betting you want to force biology teachers to waste precious time talking about your childish idiotic religious fantasy called magical creationism. That would be equivalent to forcing a science teacher to talk about whether or not the earth is flat.
Brain-dead Christians know absolutely nothing about the science they are denying. They have no idea how much scientific progress they have to throw out to defend their dead Jeebus. Instead of making fools out of themselves Christians should learn how to shut up about things they know nothing about.
There is probably no other notion in any field of science that has been as extensively tested and as thoroughly corroborated as the evolutionary origin of living organisms.
