Why do evolution deniers (aka creationists) go out of their way to know nothing about the science they don't like?

"They fear knowledge. Practical experience shows that when people learn what the theory of evolution really says and what the evidence is they tend to accept it. Therefore fundamentalist pastors have to put the fear of god into their parishioners to get them to think that they'll go to hell for even learning a little bit about science."
