Genocide

A few days ago I killed at least 1,000 very tiny little ants. It's been 5 days since I last saw an ant in my wonderful house in Northwestern Illinois.

An interesting scientific fact: I share an ancestor with those little dead ants.

Another thing. Today I killed the 1st and only fly I have seen in my house this year. I have a very nice flyswatter but I used my hand to kill the thing.

Nobody cares.

Some more science:

You know, there's this pervasive idea in biology that I think is wrong. It goes: we humans are at the pinnacle of the evolutionary tree, and as you get up that tree, brain size must get bigger. But a fly is just as evolved as a human. It's just evolved to a different niche.
-- Jeremy Niven

Humans aren't high on the evolutionary scale...there is no evolutionary scale. We aren't the pinnacle of anything.
-- PZ Myers
