Charles Darwin published the Origin of Species over 150 years ago, and a lot has happened in the past 150 years of biological SCIENCE that has both verified and vastly illuminated evolution. There are, literally, several hundred research articles relevant to various aspects of biological evolution published in the professional peer-reviewed science literature *every year*. (Not to mention specifically the fossil evidence of specimens of transitional ancestors of humans such as Homo heidelbergensis, Homo ergaster, and Homo habilis, among others, and all the recent genome studies that prove the close evolutionary relationship of humans and chimpanzees, detailed evidence which the creationist letter writer here just blithely pretends doesn't exist.)
Creationism on the other hand is a religious doctrine based on a mythological story (i.e., the real "fairy tale") in the Bible and isn't science at all. Which is why, when creationists spout rhetoric in which they pretend that evolution is religion, and their religious doctrine is science, I always thank them for proving the deeply irrational nature of creationist rhetoric.
"Darwin was the first to use data from nature to convince people that evolution is true, and his idea of natural selection was truly novel. It testifies to his genius that the concept of natural theology, accepted by most educated Westerners before 1859, was vanquished within only a few years by a single five-hundred-page book. On the Origin of Species turned the mysteries of life's diversity from mythology into genuine science." -- Jerry Coyne
