Sinners who die without achieving eternal salvation “are not punished,” the pope said, according to an article by Mr. Scalfari in the Italian newspaper La Repubblica. “There is no hell; there is the disappearance of sinful souls.”
The Catholic Church is not a religion. It's a business and the pope knows it. Mr. Pope's job is to get more customers. That's why he has thrown out the ridiculous magical hell fantasy. If he was honest he would admit the magical heaven fantasy is equally ridiculous but he won't do that because his business completely depends on the gullible cowards who can't exist without their childish magical-2nd-life fantasy.
There is no hell and there is no heaven. These are basic facts of reality. Virtually all religious cults completely depend on the idea that reality can be thrown out if that's what makes cowards feel good.

The Wall Street Journal article:
‘There Is No Hell’: An Untraditional Pope, an Italian Journalist and the Quote Igniting Controversy
"Darwin was the first to use data from nature to convince people that evolution is true, and his idea of natural selection was truly novel. It testifies to his genius that the concept of natural theology, accepted by most educated Westerners before 1859, was vanquished within only a few years by a single five-hundred-page book. On the Origin of Species turned the mysteries of life's diversity from mythology into genuine science." -- Jerry Coyne

The Catholic Church is not a religion. It's a business. The pope's job is selling bullshit. If he can get more customers by throwing out some of the bullshit then that's what he has to do. What I wrote at the Wall Street Journal, also known as the Christian Journal because it has numerous articles about Christian bullshit.
