School board approves update to Utah science education despite reservations about absence of God. New guidelines have been under fire for out-of-state origins and inclusion of evolution, climate change.
A Utah school board member is complaining about not being able to stick his magic god fairy into science education.
"School board member Stan Lockhart started Friday's state education meeting with a message about his relationship with God."
"God is part of science and there's a tendency to ignore the divine in education policy. We cannot take God out of existence with our school system."
What a world-class stupid fucking asshole.
Somebody in Utah has a brain:
"During a public comment portion of the meeting, Salt Lake County parent Jason Stevenson told board members that science doesn't care if Utah goes its own way. But effective and accurate education will ignite the curiosity of Utah's students, he said, preparing them to participate in the groundbreaking research of the future."
Competent science education makes students curious to learn more. When assholes are allowed to dumb down the teaching of evolution the students learn how to hate science because they it's is boring.
"Darwin was the first to use data from nature to convince people that evolution is true, and his idea of natural selection was truly novel. It testifies to his genius that the concept of natural theology, accepted by most educated Westerners before 1859, was vanquished within only a few years by a single five-hundred-page book. On the Origin of Species turned the mysteries of life's diversity from mythology into genuine science." -- Jerry Coyne
