One of my favorite creatures lives here in south Florida. Muscovy ducks.

The 1st & 2nd photos are male Muscovy ducks. The last photo is the female with baby ducks.

I would not call male Muscovy ducks beautiful but the lady Muscovy ducks are not complaining.

I once saw two male Muscovy ducks fight each other and right outside my window I watched Muscovy ducks make love.

They like to eat grass. They are numerous. They often cross the street. Drivers are used to this and almost aways they stop and wait. I have seen dead Muscovy ducks, run over by a car. Not every driver is careful.

Only the females take care of the baby ducks. They usually start with about 10 ducks but some die leaving about 5 ducks who survive. The babies follow the mother, even after they get much larger. Eventually they're on their own.

Once I saw baby ducks by themselves. I was concerned about it but very soon I saw the mother was flying at full speed to get back to her babies. I never saw a Muscovy duck fly that fast. They rarely fly at all. They prefer walking.

They know humans never bother them so they're not afraid to beg for food. We're not suppose to feed them because they're better off just eating grass.

As usual Wikipedia has tons of information about Muscovy ducks at Wikipedia - Muscovy duck
