Calvin and Hobbes - December 20, 2017
Calvin:
This whole Santa Claus thing just doesn't make sense. Why all the secrecy? Why all the mystery? If the guy exists why doesn't he ever show himself and prove it?
And if he doesn't exist, what's the meaning of all this?
Hobbes:
I donno.. Isn't this a religious holiday?
Calvin:
Yeah, but actually, I've got the same questions about God.
"Darwin was the first to use data from nature to convince people that evolution is true, and his idea of natural selection was truly novel. It testifies to his genius that the concept of natural theology, accepted by most educated Westerners before 1859, was vanquished within only a few years by a single five-hundred-page book. On the Origin of Species turned the mysteries of life's diversity from mythology into genuine science." -- Jerry Coyne

I am unable to move today's Calvin and Hobbes comic strip to this blog so I wrote the conversation here.
