Speciation

speciation: The evolution of new populations that are reproductively isolated from other populations.

My favorite examples of speciation:

The ancestors of human apes and chimpanzee apes became separated and evolved differently.

The ancestors of chimpanzee apes and bonobo apes became separated by a river. They are two different species now.

As usual Wikipedia has everything you could ever want to know about speciation at Wikipedia - Speciation
