I answered an excellent question at Yahoo Answers about the magical creationism problem in Idiot America.

"How many people do actually believe in creationism? Recently, I decided to check out 'creationism' and its teaching. Instead of finding something worth reading, I found unsubstantiated claims against evolution, completely religion-based explanations of common concepts such as existence of multiple languages etc. To make things even worse, this indoctrination is presented to parents, teaching them how to raise their kids believing in nonsense. Why do people still believe in creationism in 21st century?"

Everything you wrote, well done and unfortunately true.

Why do people still believe in creationism in the 21st century?

Obviously extreme stupidity is part of the problem.

In Idiot America where I live science education is worse than terrible. Most of our biology teachers know nothing about the subject they are teaching. The students learn how to hate science because they think it's boring.

Another problem is an entire industry exists to spread lies about evolution to defend the moronic idea that millions of species were magically created out of nothing.

Another problem is the child abuse called religious brainwashing which you wrote about.

Another problem in Idiot America is the never ending Christian war against science education.

Evolution is the strongest fact of science. The overwhelming evidence for it is more powerful than Charles Darwin could have imagined possible. The idiots who deny this important and interesting branch of science don't know what they're missing.

The same brilliant person wrote more stuff in the comments:

I study electrical engineering and our physics class went through principles of quantum mechanics. The thing is that quantum mechanics opens your eyes and forces you to "step outside the box" and modify your perception of reality. The more you dig into it, the more you find that determinism regarding God and supernatural is a made-up story. Our world is created by elementary particles that behave like nothing we can perceive and observe with our own eyes, but the beauty is that equations describing them reveal how empty minded belief in God is. You, me, your car, this planet, our entire universe is a set of equations that we can comprehend. We can replicate natural phenomena in labs. Molecules are proven to produce life given the right ingredients and conditions.

I think that people who believe in fairy tales are miseducated and lack basic comprehension of the world around us. I'm deeply disappointed that despite the basically infinite amount of information, some people chose to remain ignorant and proceed to live in the reality that is based on an era where people didn't even understand that Earth is a planet, not a flat surface.

Does science hold answer to everything? No. But compared to 200 years ago when the idea of wave-particle duality, uncertainty principles, and alike mind-warbling theories was not even close to being dreamt of... Well, we're on the right track. I pity those who deny that.
