"If all mentions of punishment were removed from the Bible, would Christianity still work?"
The idea is "Suck up to Jeebus or the loving god fairy will torture you forever."
It works for gullible children and it works for cowardly morons who never learned how to grow up.
One more thing:
Anyone with a brain can figure out an obvious fact: The bible is 100% fiction. It was written by idiots who were making everything up.
