Kursk, Russia

I just played chess (https://lichess.org) with someone from Kursk, Russia. I never heard of Kursk so I looked it up.

Wikipedia - Kursk, Russia

Kursk is a city and the administrative center of Kursk Oblast, Russia, located at the confluence of the Kur, Tuskar, and Seym Rivers. The area around Kursk was the site of a turning point in the Soviet–German struggle during World War II and the site of the largest tank battle in history.

Later today I will look up the largest tank battle in history. I like to look stuff up.

I was winning the game but I was in time trouble. With 11 seconds left I might have had enough time to checkmate but I made a terrible move that made it possible for my opponent to get a stalemate which is a draw. Russia had 5 minutes left.

Stalemate: "a position counting as a draw, in which a player is not in check but cannot move except into check."

In other words if a chess player is not in check but can't make any legal moves the game is a stalemate which is a draw.
