A gunman has taken hostages at a supermarket in Southern France, officials said Friday, an assault that prosecutors are treating as a possible terrorist attack. Tactical police took up positions around a Super-U store in the town of Trèbes where the gunman is holed up, officials said. France’s prime minister said shots had been fired at the supermarket and that “the situation is serious.”
