Clearly trying to persuade religious people that their gods are fictional using evidence, logic and analogies is pointless. They can't even grasp the point of such arguments much of the time and outright refuse to listen the rest of the time. Wilful ignorance combined with contempt for science makes these people impossible to debate rationally. They are encouraged by religious teachings such as being told not to question dogma. Reality means nothing to them. They are too busy living in fantasy land. It's no good explaining that gods are less likely than leprechauns, fairies or unicorns. They don't even understand that argument. Their religious books are engraved on their tiny brains leaving no space for analytical thought. Ironic since unicorns are in the bible but most of them seem to have either skipped those sections or accept that unicorns are real as a consequence. How can human beings be so monumentally dumb? So frightened of a mythical bogeyman that they can't even question the veracity of silly bronze age fairy tales?

"Darwin was the first to use data from nature to convince people that evolution is true, and his idea of natural selection was truly novel. It testifies to his genius that the concept of natural theology, accepted by most educated Westerners before 1859, was vanquished within only a few years by a single five-hundred-page book. On the Origin of Species turned the mysteries of life's diversity from mythology into genuine science." -- Jerry Coyne
