This quote from a famous paleontologist was written after magical creationism was renamed to "creation science" and before magical creationism was renamed to "intelligent design". No matter what Christian fucktards call their magical creation fantasy it's still bullshit and it's not science.
Creation science has not entered the curriculum for a reason so simple and so basic that we often forget to mention it: because it is false, and because good teachers understand why it is false. What could be more destructive of that most fragile yet most precious commodity in our entire intellectual heritage—good teaching—than a bill forcing our honorable teachers to sully their sacred trust by granting equal treatment to a doctrine not only known to be false, but calculated to undermine any general understanding of science as an enterprise?
-- Stephen Jay Gould
A 1999 Gallup poll shows that 68% of Americans didn't get the memo.
Another thing that's interesting and very disgusting: In 1999 the two candidates for United States President, including the Democrat FFS, supported the teaching of magical creationism in public schools. I knew George W. Bush is a fucking idiot but I didn't know Al Gore is a fucking idiot.
Americans Support Teaching Creationism as Well as Evolution in Public Schools
PRINCETON, NJ - Although some leaders in the scientific community have expressed stunned dismay at the willingness of both leading presidential contenders, Texas Governor George W. Bush and Vice-President Al Gore, to support the teaching of creationism in public schools, recent Gallup polls confirm that Americans are in favor of that policy by a substantial margin. At the same time, they are divided on how human beings came into existence.
According to a Gallup poll conducted June 25-27 of this year, Americans favor teaching creationism in the public schools, along with evolution, by a margin of 68% to 29%.
"Darwin was the first to use data from nature to convince people that evolution is true, and his idea of natural selection was truly novel. It testifies to his genius that the concept of natural theology, accepted by most educated Westerners before 1859, was vanquished within only a few years by a single five-hundred-page book. On the Origin of Species turned the mysteries of life's diversity from mythology into genuine science." -- Jerry Coyne
