Chicago shootings are up roughly 50% year-to-date compared with the same period of 2019. There were 31 shootings over the weekend, including three homicides, police said. Through Aug. 2, the city has seen 450 murders so far this year, up from 291 in the same period last year, a 55% increase. Amid a surge in crime across the country, Chicago has accounted for one of eight murders in major cities.
