A beautiful but very dangerous paradise

American tourist killed by tiger shark in Costa Rica

I totally agree with this copy & paste job. This is the 21st century and still there are morons who think a magical being is real and it loves us and it will torture us forever if we don't suck up to it.

If You’re a Christian, Muslim or Jew - You are Wrong. May 25, 2011.

We live in a twisted world, where right is wrong and wrong reigns supreme. It is a chilling fact that most of the world’s leaders believe in nonsensical fairytales about the nature of reality. They believe in Gods that do not exist, and religions that could not possibly be true. We are driven to war after war, violence on top of violence to appease madmen who believe in gory mythologies. These men are called Christians, Muslims and Jews.
Osama bin Laden is insane. He believes God whispered in the ear of Mohammed 1,400 years ago about how he should conquer Arabia. Mohammed was a pure charlatan — and a good one at that. He makes present religious frauds like Pat Robertson look like amateurs.
He said God told him to have sex with as many of the women he met as possible. I’m sorry, I meant to say “take them as wives.” God told him to kill all other tribes that stood in his way or that would not placate him with assurances of loyalty or bribes. God told him, conveniently, that everyone should follow him and never question a word he said.
He sold this bag of goods to the blithering idiots who lived in the Arabian Peninsula at the time. If that weren’t shockingly stupid enough, over a billion people continue to believe the convenient lies that Mohammed told all that time ago — to this very day.
We live in a world full of insane people. Sanity is an island battered in an ocean of frothing delusion. The people who believe in science are the minority. The people who believe in bloody fairytales are the overwhelming majority.
George W. Bush is the most powerful man alive. He is a class A imbecile. He is far less intelligent than the average Christian. But like most of the others, he believes Jesus died for his sins. That idea is so perverse and devoid of logic it should shock the conscience. Instead, it gets him elected, and earns him the reverence of a great percentage of America. America! The most advanced country in the world — run by a bunch of villagers who still believe Santa Claus is going to save them.
There is no damn Easter Bunny. There is no Jesus waiting to return. Moses never even existed. These were all convenient lies from the men of those times to gain power. Their actions were rational — they wanted to deceive their brethren so that they could amass power. I get their motivations. But I cannot, for the life of me, understand our motivations, thousands of years later, still following the conmen of yesteryear into our gory, bloody, violent end.
Jesus is said to have said on the cross, “My God, My God, why have you forsaken me?” Because Jesus was insane and the God he thought would rescue him did not exist. And he died on that cross like a fool. He fancied himself the son of God and he could barely convince twelve men to follow him at a time when the world was full of superstition.
Excellent marketing by some of his followers would later rescue his botched effort. How many people saw his miracles? One? Twelve? Eighty? Why didn’t he show the whole world? Not because this is some giant pop quiz by God to test us — but because he did not perform any miracles!
Even his apostles can’t agree on what miracles he supposedly carried out or when he carried them out. Or whether he returned after death or he didn’t. Whether they saw him in person or just as a vision. Rational human beings shouldn’t believe this kind of nonsense. Yet most of the world does.
If a man today killed his only son to show how much he loved other people, he would be considered a madman, locked in jail and earn society’s contempt. Yet we think this is some sort of noble act by our Father in Heaven.
In Heaven? What, with the harps and the winged angels and the 72 virgins? My God, how stupid do you have to be to believe that?
I know most of you don’t actually read your religious texts, and when you do, you assiduously try to avoid the parts that make no sense whatsoever or hide underneath the comforting grasp of your religious leaders who have concocted a bunch of circular logic (a crime to even use that word in regards to Christianity, Islam or Judaism) to shield you from the obvious folly of the written text.
So, I’m not calling you stupid if you haven’t really read the material. And I know how powerful brainwashing is. We all received it when we were young and it is exceedingly difficult to break its grasp. But people dance around the issue out of politeness because they don’t want to call you what you are — ignorant.
There are a lot of people I love dearly and respect wholeheartedly who believe in religion. I hate to do this to them. But we have killed far too many people, wasted far too much time on this nonsense for us to keep going in this direction for fear of offense.
Jesus was a lunatic. God is not coming to your rescue. He hasn’t come to anyone’s rescue in thousands of years, including Jesus. Mohammed was a power hungry, scam artist and ruthless conqueror. Moses and Abraham were figments of the imagination of some long dead rabbi. He would probably laugh his ass off at all of you who still believe the fairytales he made up thousands of years ago. He probably wouldn’t even believe it if you told him.
Did I mention Judaism? The chosen people? Come on, get off it. People walk around in clothes from 18th century Russia, thinking they have been chosen by God when they look like a bunch of jackasses. I’m tired of all the deaths because we did not want to give offense. Orthodox Jews are wrong and ridiculous.
As are the orthodox and fundamentalists of all of the religions. It says in the Bible that it is an abomination to wear clothes made of two different cloths or to eat shellfish. If you think God will hate you because you mixed wool and linen or because you ate some shrimp, you are insane.
How long are we going to dance around the 800-pound gorilla in the room? The world is run by madmen. It’s not just Bush and bin Laden. It is the leader of all of the countries in the Middle East, almost all of the Americas and most of the rest of the world.
Have I offended you? That’s too bad. Stop killing each other in the name of false and ridiculous Gods and I will stop ridiculing you. Trust me, your offense is much worse than mine.
Right now as you read this, there are ignorant, hateful Muslims teaching other ignorant Muslims how to put on a suicide belt. There are orthodox Jews telling other Jews how they must never leave their “holy land” no matter what the consequences are to other human beings. They assure their followers — remember, they are not the chosen ones, we are. If we crush and oppress them, don’t worry, God will excuse it, and even desires it, because He is on our side.
There are maniacal Christians who are praying for the end of time. Who are hoping that most of the world’s population is wiped off the face of the Earth by their vengeful and murderous God. Whom they believe is, ironically, a loving God. Unless, of course, you make the fatal mistake of not kissing his ass and appeasing him, in which case he will slaughter you and condemn you to eternal torture. What kind of sick people believe this?
The kind who live next to you. The kind who voted for George Bush. The kind who send their religious leaders to the White House to argue against even-handedness in the Middle East because it would prevent their sick prophecy. The kind who have undue influence over how we use the greatest and most lethal army ever built by man.
If you don’t want to be called ignorant or misinformed, then get informed. Learn the real nature of our universe and put aside old wives tales about resurrected Gods, omniscient prophets and a guy who could split the Red Sea but couldn’t find where he’s going in the desert for forty years.
It’s the year 2005. Let’s start acting like it.

This is why it's not a good idea to let Muslim scum get in.

MOGADISHU, Somalia—The death toll in October’s massive truck bombing in Somalia’s capital has reached 512 people, according to the committee tasked with looking into the country’s worst-ever attack.
The committee’s report, obtained by the Associated Press, said another 312 people were wounded in the Mogadishu bombing and 62 people remain missing.
Somalia’s government has blamed the al-Qaeda-linked al-Shabaab extremist group for the Oct. 14 attack, which struck a crowded street.
The bombing appalled Somalis, with some calling it their “9/11.” Thousands later marched in defiance against the extremist group, while the president announced a new military offensive.
Al-Shabaab often attacks high-profile areas in Mogadishu. The extremist group has been targeted this year by nearly 30 U.S. military drone strikes after the Trump administration approved expanded operations against it.

China, what is your fucking problem?

Every year, between five and 13 million more tons of plastics wind up in the world’s oceans and a whopping 80 percent of that waste pours in from just 20 countries. China is the most egregious offender, discarding nearly 30 percent of the world’s ocean-bound plastics, according to a new country-by-country analysis of plastic trash in the sea published Thursday by Science.

Why do we human apes have to eat fruit or else get scurvy?

Why do we human apes have to eat fruit or else get scurvy?

We have the gene that makes us able to make plenty of our own vitamin C but that gene is broken. Why? Because our ancient primate ancestors who lived in trees had plenty of fruit to eat so when a mutation turned off this gene there was no problem because they didn't need that gene. So now we have to eat fruit. Fortunately I love fruit, especially very fresh green grapes and very expensive Honey Crisp apples.

This copy & paste job from a science blog explains the whole thing.

The Human Evolution Blog - Why Humans Must Eat Vitamin C

Posted on September 13, 2014 by NathanHLents

Have you ever wondered why we humans need to have vitamin C in our diet, but dogs and cats don’t?

American schoolchildren often begin their study of U.S. history by learning about the 14th and 15th century European explorers. I distinctly remember a story we were told about how sailors eventually learned to carry potatoes or limes on their long voyages in order to prevent the disease called scurvy. We now know that scurvy is caused by a deficiency in ascorbic acid, also known as vitamin C.
Limes_whole_and_halved
Thus, vitamin C is considered an “essential” vitamin because we simply must have it in our diet. Without it, we cannot make collagen and our tissues lose integrity, bones become brittle, we bleed out of various orifices, and our bodies basically fall apart. That’s scurvy.
However, have you noticed that neither dog food nor cat food contains any citrus fruit? Both dogs and cats can get by on meat and rice, with no vitamin C whatsoever, and they never develop scurvy. How do they do it? They make their own vitamin C.
In fact, the cells of nearly all animals on the planet make plenty of their own vitamin C and thus have no need for it in their diets. Humans and other primates are pretty unique in our need to have vitamin C in our diet. This is an example where our ancestors clearly had more functionality than we have now. Somewhere in our lineage, we actually lost the ability to make vitamin C.

How did we lose it? It turns out that we do have all of the genes that are necessary, but one of them is “broken.” The broken gene, nicknamed GULO, codes for an enzyme called L-gulonolactone oxidase, which is responsible for a key step in vitamin C synthesis. We have the gene, but it has been mutated to the point of being nonfunctional, making it a so-called pseudogene.

Somewhere in the ancestor of primates, the gene suffered a mutation, rendering it inoperable, and then random mutation continued, littering the gene with tiny errors. We can still easily recognize the gene. It’s there and the vast majority of the code is the same, but there are a few key parts that have been mutated. It’s like if I were to remove the spark plug from a car. It’s still a car. You can easily see that it is still a car. In fact, you would have to look very carefully to see that anything was wrong at all. But yet, it cannot function as a car, even slightly. It’s totally inoperable, even though most of it is still together.

That’s what happened to our GULO gene, way back in our history. The spark plug was removed by a random mutation. Random mutations happen all the time. Often, they are of no consequence, but sometimes they occur right smack in a gene. When that happens, it is almost always bad because the mutation disrupts the functioning of the gene. The individuals suffering this mutation are then a little worse off (or a lot worse off) and harmful mutations are eventually eliminated from the population.

This begs the question: why wasn’t the GULO gene mutation eliminated? Scurvy is fatal. The consequences of this mutation ought to have been quick and harsh.

Well, maybe not. What if this disrupting mutation happened to a population of mammals that already had lots of vitamin C in their diet anyway? There would be no consequence of losing the ability to make vitamin C, if they were already eating foods that contain it. What foods contain a lot of vitamin C? Citrus fruits. And where do citrus fruits mostly grow? Tropical rain forests. And where do most primates live? Bingo.
squirrel-monkeys-coming-in-from-trees-manuel-antonio-national-park-costa-rica+1152_12753330877-tpfil02aw-22920
The reason that the ancestors of primates could tolerate a mutation in the GULO gene was because, with plenty of vitamin C in their diet anyway, scurvy wasn’t an issue. Since that time, primates have pretty much stuck to the rainforests and their inability to make vitamin C might be part of why that is. After all, while it’s easy to break a gene by mutation, it’s much more difficult to fix it. It’s like slamming your hand on your computer when it’s not working right. You might fix it, but more likely, you’ll do more harm.

Primates aren’t totally unique for having a screwed up GULO gene. A few other animals have this also. Not surprisingly, the ones that tolerate having a broken GULO genes are ones that get plenty of vitamin C in their diet. Take fruit bats, for example. They eat, um, fruit.
Egyptian fruit bat5
Interestingly, our bodies, like those of other animals that have lost the ability to make vitamin C, have attempted to compensate by increasing our dietary absorption of it. Animals that make their own vitamin C are typically very poor at absorbing it from their food; they don’t need it anyway. So yes, we have attempted to correct this malfunction, but if we were to “design” a human from scratch, it would be far better to just give us a functioning GULO gene, like most of the rest of the animals. Our inability to make vitamin C puts strict constraints on our diet, upon pain of disease and death.

Our broken GULO gene is an example of how the human body, though intricate, efficient, and beautiful, is definitely not perfect. There are a few design flaws under the hood.

In America we have freedom of speech. People can say anything no matter how disgusting it is. But still it's a good thing this stupid fucking Muslim asshole has been locked up.

BBC News:

An Egyptian lawyer has been sentenced to three years in prison for saying that women who wear ripped jeans should be raped in punishment.
Nabih al-Wahsh, a prominent conservative, was also fined 20,000 Egyptian pounds (£839; $1,130).
The lawyer made the remarks on a TV panel show in October, during a debate on a draft law on prostitution.
"Are you happy when you see a girl walking down the street with half of her behind showing?" he said.
He added: "I say that when a girl walks about like that, it is a patriotic duty to sexually harass her and a national duty to rape her."
Mr Wahsh said that women who wore revealing clothing were "inviting men to harass them", and said "protecting morals is more important than protecting borders".
The prosecutor brought charges against Mr Wahsh after a public outcry.
The National Council for Women's Rights condemned the remarks, saying they were a "flagrant call" for rape, in violation of "everything in the Egyptian constitution".
The council has now filed a complaint about the statement to the Supreme Council for Media Regulation about the broadcast which aired on 19 October.
Mr Wahsh has previously called the Holocaust "imaginary" and declared himself a proud anti-Semite.
"If I see any Israeli, I will kill him," he said during a separate TV panel show.
In October last year, Mr Wahsh was involved in a TV studio brawl with a cleric, after the cleric suggested women should not necessarily have to wear a headscarf.

Christian Post - Statement of Faith

Notice the loving god's love for everlasting punishment in a magical hell. I never met a Christian who wasn't a stupid fucking asshole.

Statement of Faith

  1. We affirm our belief in the one-eternal God – Creator and Lord of the world; Father, Son and Holy Spirit – who governs all things according to the purpose of His will.
  2. We affirm the divine inspiration, truthfulness and authority of both Old and New Testament Scriptures in their entirety as the only written word of God, without error in all that it affirms, and the only infallible rule of faith and practice.
  3. We affirm that human beings, though created in the image of God, are sinful and guilty, and lost without Jesus Christ, who offers the forgiveness of sins and the liberating gifts of the Spirit to all who repent and believe.
  4. We confess Jesus Christ as the eternal Son of God who became fully human while remaining fully divine; who was our substitute on the cross, exchanging his righteousness for our unrighteousness, bearing our sins and dying our death; who rose victorious in a transformed body; and who will return personally and visibly, in power and glory, to consummate his salvation and his judgment.
  5. We believe salvation involves the redemption of the whole man, and is offered freely to all who accept Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. In its broadest sense, salvation includes regeneration, justification, sanctification, and glorification.
  6. We believe that the Church is the community of God's people rather than an institution, is at the very center of God's cosmic purpose, and is His appointed means of spreading the gospel – His good news for the whole world.
  7. We believe in the Holy Spirit, whose work includes the conviction of sin, faith in Christ, new birth and Christian growth. Through him, God's people are baptized into the Body of Christ and enlightened and empowered in worship, evangelism, and service.
  8. We believe God, in His own time and in His own way, will raise the dead and that Christ will judge all men in righteousness. The unrighteous will be consigned to Hell, the place of everlasting punishment. The righteous, in their resurrected and glorified bodies, will receive their reward and will dwell forever in Heaven with the Lord.

Everything I know about the Amish people.

I like the Amish people because they are the only Christians who mind their own business.

They are the only branch of Christianity that almost never lets anyone else get in. You have to be born into it.

They don't bother other people, they just want to live their way and not care too much about the rest of the world.

Most of them live in Pennsylvania, Ohio, and Indiana. They also live in Wisconsin, New York, Michigan, Missouri, Kentucky, Iowa, Illinois, and Minnesota. There are a very small number of them who live in other states.

Their chicken is excellent. I used to eat their chicken which was available in a wealthy suburb of Chicago.

The Amish are the best carpenters in the world. Some of them got a job building the ridiculous Noah's Ark in Kentucky. By the way the Noah's Ark story is about the bible god's love for genocide.

For some reason they don't have and don't use any electricity which means no internet and they can't use anything else that requires electricity.

To travel they use a horse and buggy. If they have to go somewhere that requires a car they have somebody who is not Amish give them a ride. They also travel by train.

The only time I saw the Amish was at train station in downtown Chicago. They were waiting for a train. I was also waiting for a train and I sat only about 10 feet from where they were. They speak English but they were talking in one of these languages: Pennsylvania German, Bernese German, Low Alemannic Alsatian German, and Amish High German. It was very interesting to listen to them even though I didn't understand anything they said.

It's possible to pay them to be able to join an Amish family dinner and ask them questions. My parents did this.

When Amish children are old enough they are allowed to experience the rest of the world for one weekend and then decide which life they prefer. I assume they almost always decide to continue the life they were born into.

They have their own schools and the students are done after 8th grade. No high school. The United States government usually requires students to be in school until at least age 16 but the Amish do not have to obey this rule.

Also the Amish got the government to agree they never have to pay social security taxes which means they can never collect social security when they get too old to work.

The Amish are creationists and they probably know nothing about evolution. Also this subject is something they don't talk about.

Like every other branch of Christianity they believe in a magical 2nd life in a magical heaven.

"While the Amish share the belief of most Protestants that salvation is an unearned gift from God, they don't believe that faith automatically guarantees salvation. Many reject the belief common to other Protestant denominations that anyone can be certain that his salvation is guaranteed. They consider such certainty to be arrogant."

"The Amish, who are well known for their horse-and-buggy lifestyle, live separately from the world and modern technology. That separation extends to foregoing electricity, since being tied into the electrical grid would constitute a connection to the outside word. This stems from the desire to avoid being 'polluted' by the sin they see as rampant in the modern world."

"Most Christians see spreading the word of God as a central responsibility of their faith. Many Amish, on the other hand, feel no obligation to evangelize, preferring to let their faith show by the way they live. In fact, the Amish rarely accept converts."

"Amish grant primary authority to the church and reject any civilian authority that contradicts it. Amish beliefs, for example, forbid acceptance of any public funds."

"Retired Amish receive no Social Security benefits. On the other hand, they're not legally obligated to pay Social Security taxes, either (per a 1961 Supreme Court Decision). They don't educate their children past eighth grade, and they avoid joining the military. In addition, when required to testify in court, they do not swear oaths. Instead, they make affirmations of truth."

"The Ordnung is an oral tradition of rules and expectations that govern every aspect of Amish life, private, public and ceremonial. Rather than being a written set of rules that must be memorized, the Ordnung is taught by living it, much like children absorb and learn their native tongue by living it. It's a code of conduct that evolved over decades, and it differs slightly from one Amish congregation to another."

West Nickel Mines School shooting

I found this at the West Nickel Mines School shooting. These Amish people are amazing.

On the day of the shooting, a grandfather of one of the murdered Amish girls was heard warning some young relatives not to hate the killer, saying, "We must not think evil of this man." Another Amish father noted, "He had a mother and a wife and a soul and now he's standing before a just God." Jack Meyer, a member of the Brethren community living near the Amish in Lancaster County, explained: "I don't think there's anybody here that wants to do anything but forgive and not only reach out to those who have suffered a loss in that way but to reach out to the family of the man who committed these acts."

A Roberts family spokesman said an Amish neighbor comforted the Roberts family hours after the shooting and extended forgiveness to them. Amish community members visited and comforted Roberts' widow, parents, and parents-in-law. One Amish man held Roberts' sobbing father in his arms, reportedly for as long as an hour, to comfort him. The Amish have also set up a charitable fund for the family of the shooter. About 30 members of the Amish community attended Roberts' funeral, and Marie Roberts, the widow of the killer, was one of the few outsiders invited to the funeral of one of the victims.

Marie Roberts wrote an open letter to her Amish neighbors thanking them for their forgiveness, grace, and mercy. She wrote, "Your love for our family has helped to provide the healing we so desperately need. Gifts you've given have touched our hearts in a way no words can describe. Your compassion has reached beyond our family, beyond our community, and is changing our world, and for this we sincerely thank you." The Amish do not normally accept charity, but because of the extreme nature of the tragedy, donations were accepted. Richie Lauer, director of the Anabaptist Foundation, said the Amish community, whose religious beliefs prohibit them from having health insurance, will likely use the donations to help pay the medical costs of the hospitalized children.

Some commentators criticized the quick and complete forgiveness with which the Amish responded, arguing that forgiveness is inappropriate when no remorse has been expressed, and that such an attitude runs the risk of denying the existence of evil, while others were supportive. Donald Kraybill and two other scholars of Amish life noted that "letting go of grudges" is a deeply rooted value in Amish culture, which remembers forgiving martyrs including Dirk Willems and Jesus himself. They explained that the Amish willingness to forgo vengeance does not undo the tragedy or pardon the wrong, but rather constitutes a first step toward a future that is more hopeful.

When I lived in Chicago WFMT radio would always play this music at 6:00 every weekday morning. "Early One Morning" (The Choir of New College, Oxford)

Early one morning,
Just as the sun was rising,
I heard a young maid sing,
In the valley below.

Oh, don't deceive me,
Oh, never leave me,
How could you use
A poor maiden so?

Remember the vows,
That you made to your Mary,
Remember the bow'r,
Where you vowed to be true,

Oh, don't deceive me,
Oh, never leave me,
How could you use
A poor maiden so?

Oh Gay is the garland,
And fresh are the roses,
I've culled from the garden,
To place upon thy brow.

Oh, don't deceive me,
Oh, never leave me,
How could you use
A poor maiden so?

Thus sang the poor maiden,
Her sorrows bewailing,
Thus sang the poor maid,
In the valley below.

Oh, don't deceive me,
Oh, never leave me,
How could you use
A poor maiden so?

This used to be France.

I could have danced all night.

What I wrote somewhere else about evolution deniers, aka uneducated morons.

Somebody wrote "I just really don't see how we, as human beings, came from animals."

We are animals, or to be more accurate we are mammals, primates, and apes. DNA evidence repeatedly shows we are very closely related to chimpanzee apes. This is scientific fact. There is no debate about these facts.

The evidence for evolution is way beyond overwhelming. It would be impossible for a competent biologist (or any educated person) to deny our evolutionary relationship with all other life.

The problem is these evolution deniers are too lazy to educate themselves. Also they have no curiosity. A normal person would wonder why every biologist in the world accepts the established truth of evolution. They would be curious. The science deniers are not curious about anything. Religious brainwashing sucked all their curiosity out of them.

Of course the other problem is stupidity. I never met a creationist who didn't have a defective brain.

Another favorite quote for my list.

"Every time I travel, I have to emphasize that I despise Trump and his administration, for everywhere I go people are baffled that we elected such a moron."
-- Jerry Coyne, University of Chicago biologist

Science hard, hurts brain. God easy, no think.

To defend their magic god fairy Christians always invoke the god of the gaps. They have to do this because a god fairy who never had anything to do is a fairy that doesn't exist.

If anything is more important than the Magical Resurrection of the Magic Jeebus Man it's the god fairy who magically created the universe and magically created the 1st simple living cells 4 billion years ago on this planet.

The universe thing goes like this: "Nothing can't become something."

How do they know this? They just know these things. The idea is if they don't understand something then it's impossible.

The first life thing: "The magic god fairy did it."

Again if they don't understand then the fairy did it.

Then of course we have the know-absolutely-nothing morons who are 100% certain their fairy magically created every species out of nothing, including human apes and including 400,000 species of beetles.

The Christians who pretend they accept the established truth of evolution always make sure they stick their fairy into it to invent or use or guide evolution. Of course that's bullshit but Christians refuse to admit their fairy had nothing to do with the diversity of life.

Never ending scientific progress is killing Christianity and the Christians know it. The logical thing to do is just give up and throw the fairy out. They don't want to do that because then there would be no magical 2nd life. Reality makes cowardly Christians cry.

Everything was a natural process including everything I wrote about here. How do I know this? Everything has to be a natural process because the only alternative, supernatural magic, is too childish and too ridiculous to take seriously.

Typical know-nothing Christian coward: "Duh, duh, I don't understand, duh, therefore the Magic Man did it, duh."

I found another excellent blog, much better than this place. Also I added another book to my Amazon wish list.

Greg Laden's science blog at http://gregladen.com/blog/

The book I want to buy is Amazon.com - A Crack in Creation: Gene Editing and the Unthinkable Power to Control Evolution by Jennifer A. Doudna and Samuel H. Sternberg

A trailblazing biologist grapples with her role in the biggest scientific discovery of our era: a cheap, easy way of rewriting genetic code, with nearly limitless promise and peril.

Not since the atomic bomb has a technology so alarmed its inventors that they warned the world about its use. Not, that is, until the spring of 2015, when biologist Jennifer Doudna called for a worldwide moratorium on the use of the new gene-editing tool CRISPR—a revolutionary new technology that she helped create—to make heritable changes in human embryos. The cheapest, simplest, most effective way of manipulating DNA ever known, CRISPR may well give us the cure to HIV, genetic diseases, and some cancers, and will help address the world’s hunger crisis. Yet even the tiniest changes to DNA could have myriad, unforeseeable consequences—to say nothing of the ethical and societal repercussions of intentionally mutating embryos to create “better” humans.

Writing with fellow researcher Samuel Sternberg, Doudna shares the thrilling story of her discovery, and passionately argues that enormous responsibility comes with the ability to rewrite the code of life. With CRISPR, she shows, we have effectively taken control of evolution. What will we do with this unfathomable power?

What a scientist wrote about the Trump administration

"The election of Donald Trump and the apparent takeover of most of the US by the anti-science Republican party."

This is typical. Scientists hate Trump. I can understand why. Virtually everyone in his administration is an evolution denier and global warming denier, not to mention their strong desire to destroy the environment and wipe out entire species.

Who is Mr. Jeebus Christ? I'm going to look it up. I will use the incorrect spelling of Jeebus and google "wikipedia jesus christ".

Jeebus[e] (/ˈzəs/ JEE-zussc. 4 BC – c. 30 / 33 AD), also referred to as Jeebus of Nazareth and Jeebus Christ,[f] was a Jewish preacher and religious leader.[12] He is the central figure of ChristianityChristians believe him to be the Son of God and the awaited Messiah (Christ) prophesied in the Old Testament.[13][14]

Jeebus was not the "son of god" because god (aka Magic Man) is not real.

Virtually all modern scholars of antiquity agree that Jeebus existed historically,[g] although the quest for the historical Jeebus has produced little agreement on the historical reliability of the Gospels and on how closely the biblical Jesus reflects the historical Jeebus.[21][h][i] Jeebus was a Galilean Jew[12] who was baptized by John the Baptist and subsequently began his own ministry, preaching his message orally[24] and often being referred to as "rabbi".[25] Jeebus debated fellow Jews on how to best follow God, engaged in healings, taught in parables and gathered followers.[26][27] He was arrested and tried by the Jewish authorities,[28] and turned over to the Roman government, and was subsequently crucified on the order of Pontius Pilate, the Roman prefect.[26] After his death, his followers believed he rose from the dead, and the community they formed eventually became the Christian Church.[29]

It doesn't matter if Jeebus was real or not. If Jeebus was real he was nothing more than a know-nothing preacher man, as insane and worthless as today's preachers.

"baptized by John the Baptist" This explains where the word baptized came from. It's a bullshit religious word. Normal people don't use it.

"the historical reliability of the Gospels" The gospels are bullshit.

"Jeebus debated fellow Jews on how to best follow god." It was a debate about bullshit. The Magic Man is not real.

"He was arrested and tried by the Jewish authorities, and turned over to the Roman government, and was subsequently crucified on the order of Pontius Pilate, the Roman prefect."

Good riddance.

"After his death, his followers believed he rose from the dead."

That's ridiculous. The decomposing corpse of the Magic Jeebus Man did not become a zombie. The stinking pile of garbage that used to be Jeebus did not rise from the dead. How do I know this? It's because it's fucking impossible. This is called "Reality" FFS. Anyone who thinks Jeebus rose from the dead needs to be locked up and forced to wear a straitjacket.

Every branch of the entire moronic Christian death cult completely depends on this idiotic disgusting zombie fantasy.

According to the rest of this Wikipedia article the Christians believe in numerous other magical miracles. Christians are fucking insane. If you're a Christian grow up FFS. If growing up makes you cry we are going have lock you up so you can't infect children with your incurable mental illness.

I just googled "wikipedia jeebus christ" and found a wikipedia article about "Jeebus history". I'm not making this up. From the google search I also found the Urban Dictionary definition of Jeebus. Please notice there are two e's in Jeebus.

From Urban Dictionary:
Jeebus
Jeebus was born over 2000 years ago and started the religion of Crustianity. Jeebus Crust is the son of Gosh and part of the Holy 3-Some (or Ménage à Trois). Jeebus was born to Bloody Mary, a virgin, by a miracle of the Spirit of Truthiness. The Holy Babble gives an account of an angel visiting Bloody Mary to tell her that she was chosen to bare the Son of Gosh.
Jeebus Crust is the savior of the one and only true religionCrustianity.
