The condition of the officers injured and the suspect remains unknown. The incident occurred just after 7:10 a.m. in the 1500 block of South Lawndale Avenue.
Police said officers responded to a nearby ShotSpotter alert and observed a person in a nearby vacant lot. According to police, the man turned and opened fire toward the officers, striking two officers.
Officers returned fire and struck the suspect on the lower body.
Supt. David Brown announced both officers are in stable condition at Mount Sinai Hospital. One officer was struck to the collarbone and shoulder and another officer was struck to the hand.
The suspect is recovering at a different hospital in stable condition.
