Apollo 11. The first manned spacecraft landed on the Moon on July 20, 1969. I watched as it happened, Armstrong walking on the moon for the 1st time in human history. Armstrong is dead. Michael Collins is dead. Buzz Aldrin is still alive at age 91.

Astronaut Michael Collins dies at 90. He circled the moon in Apollo 11 as Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin landed below.

While Armstrong and Aldrin took their giant leap for mankind, in Armstrong’s memorable phrase, Collins circled the moon alone, keeping the command module going and running through the 117-page list of contingencies he’d prepared should anything go awry. His family announced his death in a statement.
