As Churches Reopen, Catholics Weigh Mixed Blessings of Online Worship

Virtual services boomed during lockdowns, but Pope Francis has reservations. ‘This is not the church.’

POPE FRANCIS IS A STUPID FUCKING ASSHOLE. HE IS PART OF THE CHILD ABUSE COVERUP.

Since St. Monica Catholic Community in Los Angeles reopened for public worship earlier this month, almost 100 of the faithful at a time have been allowed to attend Sunday Mass, wearing masks and keeping 6 feet away from each other throughout the service.

PUBLIC WORSHIP IS FOR FUCKTARDS WHO WANT TO SHOW OFF HOW HOLY THEY ARE.

"THE FAITHFUL" MORONS WHO BELIEVE IN BULLSHIT THAT HAS ZERO EVIDENCE.

But when the time comes for parishioners to read from scripture or sing a hymn, they do so from the isolation of their homes, appearing to the priest and assembled congregation on a 65" TV screen set up near the altar. Singing in the church is still prohibited as an anticontagion measure, and some of the parishioners who regularly perform readings are in vulnerable age or health categories.

READ FROM SCRIPTURE - READ BULLSHIT WRITTEN BY DEAD MORONS WHO MADE STUFF UP.

Catholic Church leaders are grappling with how to manage what promises to be a long transition to normalcy from lockdown, encouraging their followers to return to in-person worship while recognizing the continuing health risks from Covid-19, the disease caused by the novel coronavirus.

CATHOLIC CHURCH LEADERS - ASSHOLES WHO RAPE CHILDREN.

Online worship boomed across denominations during the lockdowns, with many congregations reporting higher virtual attendance than they normally received in person. The internet remains the safest option for the elderly and other vulnerable church members until the pandemic ends.

But some worry that online worship is a poor substitute for physical assembly in maintaining the unity of faith communities. ASSHOLES FOR JEEBUS ARE NOT GETTING PAID IF THEIR CUSTOMERS ARE NOT IN THE CHURCH. THIS IS A PROBLEM BECAUSE THESE STUPID FUCKING ASSHOLES DON'T WANT TO GET A REAL JOB. That concern is especially acute for Catholicism, which places central importance on sacraments that aren’t considered valid unless minister and recipient are physically together. Catholics are normally obligated to attend Mass on Sundays and certain holy days, and the liturgy culminates in the Eucharist, called the Most Blessed Sacrament, in which bread and wine are believed to become the body and blood of Jesus.

Catholics are normally obligated to attend Mass on Sundays and certain holy days - BECAUSE THAT'S HOW THE CATHOLIC BUSINESS MAKES MONEY FROM THEIR MORON CUSTOMERS.

"bread and wine are believed to become the body and blood of Jesus" BULLSHIT. ANYONE WHO BELIEVES THIS RIDICULOUS FANTASY IS A FUCKING RETARD. BY THE WAY, THE MAGIC JEEBUS MAN IS DEAD FFS.

In New York City, where houses of worship are to reopen Monday at 25% of their normal capacity, Cardinal Timothy Dolan has said that the usual obligation to attend Sunday Mass, which he waived during the lockdown, remains suspended. Live-streams of Masses from St. Patrick’s Cathedral, which grew in popularity to 40,000 views on Sunday June 14 from around 600 a week before the lockdown, will “continue to serve those people who would want to be at Mass but are prevented from doing so,” said Joseph Zwilling, communications director for the Archdiocese of New York.

Not all are taking the same approach. Bishop Marco Busca, chief of communications for the Catholic bishops of Lombardy, the Italian region hit hardest by the coronavirus, celebrated his last live-streamed Mass on the last day of May, two weeks after the Italian government allowed the resumption of public worship.

Lombardy continues to be the epicenter of Italy’s pandemic with more than 1,000 new cases a week, and churchgoers are required to wear masks and keep at least one meter’s distance between them during Mass. But Bishop Busca told the newspaper of the Italian bishops conference earlier this month that live-streaming had been merely a “provisional and extraordinary parenthesis on account of the emergency, as we waited to return to normal worship.” IT'S ALL ABOUT MAKING MONEY. THEY HAVE A LOT OF LEGAL BILLS TO PAY FOR THE CHILD ABUSE.

Pope Francis, whose normally private morning Masses were live-streamed daily by the Vatican during the lockdown, voiced his disquiet over the practice during a homily in April. “This pandemic has forced everyone to communicate, even religiously, even this Mass, through the communications media,” the pope said. “This is not the church. This is the church in a difficult situation which the Lord permits, but the ideal of the church is always with the people and the sacraments…We must have familiarity with the Lord this way for now, but only so we can come out of the tunnel, not stay there.”

THE FUCKTARD POPE: "This is the church in a difficult situation which the Lord permits." HEY MISTER POPE, YOUR LORD DOESN'T PERMIT ANYTHING BECAUSE HE IS FUCKING DEAD. AND YOU KNOW IT MR. POPE. THIS IS A FUCKING BUSINESS. YOU SELL BULLSHIT.

The pope’s morning Masses attracted millions of viewers around the world over a two-month period, the Vatican said. But the Vatican stopped the transmissions, citing the pope’s homily, as soon as Italy’s churches reopened last month.

"millions of viewers around the world" MILLIONS OF FUCKING MORONS.

The Vatican has continued to live-stream and televise Pope Francis’ Masses on major feast days, as well as his Sunday prayers and weekly public audiences, as it has done for years. It has issued no instructions on whether bishops and priests around the world should continue to live-stream their liturgies.

In the Archdiocese of Los Angeles, the largest in the U.S. with more than four million Catholics, live-streamed Masses will continue, according to Sarah Yaklic, the archdiocese’s chief digital officer. She notes that California state regulations currently allow a maximum of 100 people inside any house of worship, even the city’s vast cathedral, so many who are ready to attend Mass might not find a place.

Even after the health crisis ends, Ms. Yaklic said, there will still be a need for online Masses to serve the housebound and family members unable to travel for weddings or funerals. She is also bullish on social media as a way to guide Catholics in prayer—and, most importantly, to encourage them to attend Mass in person.

"guide Catholics in prayer" PRAYING IS TALKING TO YOURSELF. IT'S A MENTAL ILLNESS. AND DO THESE INSANE PEOPLE REALLY REQUIRE A GUIDE? AGAIN, THIS IS ALL ABOUT MAKING MONEY FROM YOUR GULLIBLE CUSTOMERS.

“We are a sacramental church; we are a church that needs to be together, and an essential element of who we are—not just who we worship, but who we are—comes to life in the sacraments that take place within our church buildings,” she said.

Ms. Yaklic worries that the growth of online Masses may have undermined that understanding in some minds. “We have to be very cautious as to how we take on this next phase because I do not think we should be as dependent [on the internet] as some people might like,” she said. “We have to be careful. I don’t want people to think that this is now a replacement.”

"I don’t want people to think that this is now a replacement." BECAUSE YOU NEED THEIR MONEY.

Yet online worship may be the only way to reach certain people who have avoided attending church for reasons other than physical health.

St. Monica, which has been live-streaming Masses for almost a decade, added hundreds of new names to its parish rolls during the lockdown—many of them from out of state and as far away as Australia—including a number of lapsed Catholics, some of whom said they been alienated by scandals over clerical sex abuse.

"A number of lapsed Catholics, some of whom said they been alienated by scandals over clerical sex abuse." NO SHIRT SHERLOCK. THE CHILD ABUSE IS OUT OF CONTROL. SOME CATHOLICS HAVE FIGURED THAT OUT AND THEY DON'T WANT ANYTHING TO DO WITH YOUR DISGUSTING CULT.

“The silver lining of this whole very difficult time is the fact that we’re getting people who have not been part of our tradition for a while,” said Msgr. Lloyd Torgerson, pastor of St. Monica. “There’s a hunger for faith and life and, especially during this time, just a good word for people that are really struggling, and I think we provided some of that.”

"a hunger for faith" THERE'S THAT WORD AGAIN - FAITH. YOU MUST HAVE FAITH. YOU MUST BE STUPID ENOUGH TO THINK FAITH IS A VIRTUE EVEN THOUGH IT'S AN EXCUSE FOR COWARDS TO BELIEVE ANY BULLSHIT THAT MAKES THEM FEEL GOOD.

He said he was reaching out to these recent online arrivals to better understand their concerns and reservations about the church.

“Will all these people come back?” he said. “I’m not so sure.”

St. Monica will encourage its new online members to come to the parish—or, for those living elsewhere, to churches nearby—to worship in person and receive the sacraments.

"to worship in person and receive the sacraments" SO THEY CAN GIVE YOU THEIR MONEY. YOU STUPID FUCKING ASSHOLES ARE IN IT FOR THE CASH.

“The gift we have is the gift of the Eucharist, to receive the body and blood of our lord and savior. That’s essential to who we are and, of course, we want to get back to that,” Msgr. Torgerson said.

"to receive the body and blood of our lord and savior." BULLSHIT. THE MAGIC JEEBUS MAN IS FUCKING DEAD. AND THE DEAD JEEBUS IS NOT GOING TO SAVE YOU FUCKING RETARDS FROM ANYTHING. YOU WILL BE NOTHING BUT WORM FOOD AND YOU CAN'T DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT. REALITY IS WHAT IT IS. YOU CAN'T THROW OUT REALITY YOU COWARDLY GULLIBLE MORONS.

“But there’ll be lots of people, at least I think, who will not be back, that either make the choice to stay on live-stream or are not just ready to come back. And I think we want to continue to serve them.”

THE CATHOLIC CHURCH NEEDS TO BE COMPLETELY DESTROYED. THE CATHOLICS WHO FEED THESE STUPID FUCKING ASSHOLES NEED TO BE PUT IN PRISON FOR FEEDING THE CHILD ABUSERS.
