Jesus died, taking the punishment that WE deserved, for the sins that WE committed. When we sin we deserve some kind of punishment - just as parents and teachers give out punishment to badly behaved children and courts give out punishments to those who break the law of their land.
Jesus never sinned so no punishment was due to Him. WE deserve to be punished when WE sin but the bible teaches us that Jesus took, upon Himself, the punishment that WE deserved by dying on the cross hundreds of years ago. He did that because He loved us, those alive then, and all other human beings (right up to the present time and up until He returns in Glory to take 'His Own' people to dwell with Him forever).
If some people cannot grasp WHY Jesus died it is difficult for them to understand anything about salvation and Heaven (our future home). Attending a serious Bible-believing church is the best way to learn more about this. Take good advice about which church to join. There are cults and organizations who do not teach purely from the bible - avoid such people. When they add to or take away from scripture they are sinning themselves and will be turned away on Judgement Day for misleading others.
