When I was growing up, my parents were members of a Baptist church whose preacher was known as a "card."
In one sermon he thundered that it was "high time to throw all the beer and whisky in this county into the river!"
Then he asked the music director to play the hymn "Shall We Gather at the River?"
I don't know if he did that coincidentally or on purpose, but the place was up for grabs. People laughed about it for years.
"Darwin was the first to use data from nature to convince people that evolution is true, and his idea of natural selection was truly novel. It testifies to his genius that the concept of natural theology, accepted by most educated Westerners before 1859, was vanquished within only a few years by a single five-hundred-page book. On the Origin of Species turned the mysteries of life's diversity from mythology into genuine science." -- Jerry Coyne

A comment someone wrote at the Wall Street Journal. It's about beer and a preacher who drinks it.
