My question:
A know-nothing science denier wrote: "If humans descended from monkeys, why are there still monkeys?" The fucktard was not joking. Why are Christians so dense?
We share an ancestor with monkeys, but we are more closely related to apes. Why are there still apes? It's because they evolved to live in a different environment. Why are Christians so dense?

An answer:
Christians don't like reality. At this point though, most of the imbeciles denying evolution have (finally) died off, and the remaining few are generational remnants, and are very closely tied up in creationism.
The remaining Christians, instead of accepting the scientific theory for what it is, and crediting those who discovered and expanded it to what it is today have once again shoved their imbecilic magic sky pixie into any gap they can find, claiming that he somehow 'guided' the process. This particular nonsense is tied up with the 'intelligent design' idiots.
They apparently think that this is better than just outright denying evolution.

"Darwin was the first to use data from nature to convince people that evolution is true, and his idea of natural selection was truly novel. It testifies to his genius that the concept of natural theology, accepted by most educated Westerners before 1859, was vanquished within only a few years by a single five-hundred-page book. On the Origin of Species turned the mysteries of life's diversity from mythology into genuine science." -- Jerry Coyne
