In a completely unscientific poll on our WKEI Facebook page, voters overwhelmingly supported the idea of allowing a marijuana dispensary to operate in Kewanee. In a vote of nearly 500 participants, 78% of respondents stated that they were in favor of the idea. This was backed up by commenters on on the poll who encouraged City officials to approve the idea stating that getting the revenue from a dispensary in Kewanee was a better idea than allowing that revenue to go to another community. There is currently no time table at this time for the City of Kewanee to create ordinances for allowing a recreational marijuana dispensary. Recreational marijuana becomes legal as of January 1st of 2020.
"Darwin was the first to use data from nature to convince people that evolution is true, and his idea of natural selection was truly novel. It testifies to his genius that the concept of natural theology, accepted by most educated Westerners before 1859, was vanquished within only a few years by a single five-hundred-page book. On the Origin of Species turned the mysteries of life's diversity from mythology into genuine science." -- Jerry Coyne
