NASA’s Ingenuity helicopter takes flight on Mars, the first time an aircraft has flown on another planet The four-pound vehicle flew to an altitude of about 10 feet, NASA said — a major technological achievement in Mars’s thin atmosphere. NASA hopes to fly the helicopter as many as five times, each time adding to the height and distance it travels.
