The year 2020, which witnessed terrifying blazes from California to Siberia and a record number of tropical cyclones in the Atlantic, rivaled and possibly even equaled the hottest year on record, according to four separate scientific announcements Thursday. Only the "super El Niño" year of 2016 appears to have been slightly hotter in the era of reliable measurements dating back to the late 1800s. |
