A nursing home chain that operated the site of the country's first documented covid-19 outbreak has continued to violate federal safety rules in multiple states as the pandemic spreads, according to inspection reports obtained by The Washington Post.
In the past six weeks, the government has cited Life Care Centers of America employees for not washing their hands, leaving open the door of an isolation room, letting a covid-19 patient wander a hallway without a face mask and other violations in facilities from New England to the Pacific Northwest — where the first U.S. outbreak was recorded at a nursing home outside Seattle in February. With more than 200 locations, Life Care has seen at least 250 deaths and thousands of cases among its residents and staff. Our investigations team has the full story here.
"Darwin was the first to use data from nature to convince people that evolution is true, and his idea of natural selection was truly novel. It testifies to his genius that the concept of natural theology, accepted by most educated Westerners before 1859, was vanquished within only a few years by a single five-hundred-page book. On the Origin of Species turned the mysteries of life's diversity from mythology into genuine science." -- Jerry Coyne
