Coronavirus vaccines won’t be widely available until the middle of next year, CDC director predicts

Most of the American public will not have access to a vaccine against the novel coronavirus until late spring or summer of next year, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Director Robert Redfield predicted at Wednesday’s Senate hearing on the government’s response to the pandemic.
At the hearing, Redfield echoed President Trump’s oft-stated prediction that a safe and effective vaccine could become available in November or December, but he said that the vaccine will be provided first to people most vulnerable to covid-19, so Americans who are a lower priority for the protection will be offered the shot more gradually.
