"Mr. Lombardy eventually left the priesthood, his son said, because he had lost faith in the Catholic Church, which he believed was too concerned with amassing wealth."
I found this in the New York Times and I read the article because Mr. Lombardy was a chess grandmaster and I play chess. He died recently at age 79. He was a friend of Bobby Fischer who used to be the world chess champion. He quit playing in chess tournaments to become a priest. Later he threw out the Catholic Church for the same reason I threw it out. All they care about is collecting money from their gullible customers. And this has been going on for almost 2,000 years.
The reason the Catholic Church requires priests to never get married is to prevent families from claiming their wealth when they die. The Church wants that cash.
The Catholic Church has other problems including being a sexual child abuse organization.
Like all other branches of Christianity, Catholics are required to believe in the magical resurrection of the Magic Jeebus Man and that fantasy is of course bullshit not to mention disgusting.
How anyone can still be a Catholic (or belong to any other religious cult) I will never understand. This is the 21st century FFS. We know things these days.
"Darwin was the first to use data from nature to convince people that evolution is true, and his idea of natural selection was truly novel. It testifies to his genius that the concept of natural theology, accepted by most educated Westerners before 1859, was vanquished within only a few years by a single five-hundred-page book. On the Origin of Species turned the mysteries of life's diversity from mythology into genuine science." -- Jerry Coyne
