Darwin killed God

"Darwin was the first to use data from nature to convince people that evolution is true, and his idea of natural selection was truly novel. It testifies to his genius that the concept of natural theology, accepted by most educated Westerners before 1859, was vanquished within only a few years by a single five-hundred-page book. On the Origin of Species turned the mysteries of life's diversity from mythology into genuine science." -- Jerry Coyne

Nearer, My God, to Thee. A familiar Christian hymn written by Sarah F. Adams, 1841. Sung in the video by the Sharon Singers of the Sharon Mennonite Bible Institute.

  1. Nearer, my God, to Thee, nearer to Thee!
E’en though it be a cross that raiseth me,
Still all my song shall be, nearer, my God, to Thee.
    • Refrain:
Nearer, my God, to Thee, nearer to Thee!
  2. Though like the wanderer, the sun gone down,
    Darkness be over me, my rest a stone;
Yet in my dreams I’d be nearer, my God, to Thee.
  3. There let the way appear, steps unto Heav’n;
    All that Thou sendest me, in mercy giv’n;
Angels to beckon me nearer, my God, to Thee.
  4. Then, with my waking thoughts bright with Thy praise,
    Out of my stony griefs Bethel I’ll raise;
So by my woes to be nearer, my God, to Thee.
  5. Or, if on joyful wing cleaving the sky,
Sun, moon, and stars forgot, upward I’ll fly,
Still all my song shall be, nearer, my God, to Thee.
  6. There in my Father’s home, safe and at rest,
    There in my Savior’s love, perfectly blest;
Age after age to be nearer, my God, to Thee.

And now for something completely different.

My Country 'tis of Thee
My country tis of thee
Sweet land of liberty
Of thee I sing
Land where my fathers died
Land of the pilgrim's pride
From every mountain side
Let freedom ring
My native country, thee
Land of the noble free
Thy name I love
I love thy rocks and rills
Thy woods and templed hills
My heart with rapture fills
Like that above
Let music swell the breeze
And ring from all the trees
Sweet freedom's song
Let mortal tongues awake
Let all that breathe partake
Let rocks their silence break
The sound prolong
Our Father God to, Thee
Author of liberty
To Thee I sing
My country 'tis of Thee
Sweet land of liberty
For all eternity
Let freedom ring
Let freedom ring
My country 'tis, my country 'tis of Thee

Stupid fucking cowardly Muslim morons are afraid of women.

Rejecting hijab dooms woman to 24 years in prison

You may never have heard of Saba Kord-Afshari, but the 20-year-old Iranian woman was sentenced to 24 years in prison by the Islamic Republic of Iran on Monday for the crime of defying the country’s ‘hijab law’ that forbids all women in Iran from displaying their uncovered head in public.

Kord-Ashrafi is just one of many courageous Iranian Muslim women who have defied the country’s mullahs and their female enforcers by observing what is now known as ‘White Wednesdays’ when girls and women take off their hijabs and bare their hair in public.

Her shocking conviction would have gone unnoticed and unreported had it been left to the mainstream media in Canada, who were too busy celebrating the cloth as exotic attire.

But Irvin Cotler is not one to be silenced. He along with Iranian feminist Masih Alinejad were among the first to bring the injustice towards Kord-Ashrafi to the world’s attention. The former attorney general of Canada and human rights crusader tweeted: “Condemn the brutal & unjust sentence of #SabaKordafshari, who at only 20 years old has just been sentenced to 24 years of imprisonment. Her “crime”? Speaking out for women’s rights in #Iran. We must all, wherever we are, stand in solidarity with Saba & #WhiteWednesdays prisoners.”

Saba Kord-Afshari’s trial began on Aug. 19 when she was charged with “spreading corruption and prostitution by taking off her hijab and walking without a veil [hijab].”

As Iranian, Saudi and other Muslim women around the globe struggled for freedom from the hijab, which they consider a political symbol that has nothing to do with piety, the reaction among the liberal circles in the West was confounding. Here an increasing number of feminists, leftists and the liberal media glorified the hijab as some exotic symbol of women’s liberation that had to be embraced.

On the day Saba Kord-Afshari was imprisoned for 24 years for daring to dump her hijab, that same piece of headdress was depicted in positive light by the Toronto Star in a story on its financial pages about “How to put your investments where your social conscience is.”

The story showed a smiling woman attired in hijab surrounded by words “ethics”, “integrity”, “respect”, “reliable”, “teamwork” and “ethics” rotating around her as she clicked a “Core Values” button in the centre.

It did make me wonder about the world of guilt and fantasy some of my more liberal colleagues live in.

The hijab, as colleague Farzana Hassan and myself have insisted for years on these pages, is a political symbol, not one of piety.

This is best demonstrated by North America’s top protagonist of the hijab, U.S. Congresswomen Ilhan Omar who told Vogue magazine that wearing her hijab allows her to be a “walking billboard” … “To me, the hijab means power, liberation, beauty, and resistance,” she added.

Had the hijab been a symbol of piety, I doubt any Muslim woman would flaunt it while dating married men as is being alleged by a DC woman who claims Rep. Omar and her husband are having an affair.

While Islamists and liberal Canadians fawn over hijabs, Yasmine Mohammed, an Egyptian shared a very unsympathetic judgment on that piece of cloth. She tweeted: “To me, the hijab means female subjugation, victim-blaming, and perpetuation of rape culture.”

A harsh view, but one that resonates with many Muslim victims of Islamism.

In Idiot America deranged idiots like to kill lots of people every week. To fix the problem, President Fucktard Trump decided to do nothing.

Wall Street Journal - Five Killed in Texas Shooting, Police Say

At least 21 were injured in the West Texas cities of Midland and Odessa; Victims include three police officers.

By Elizabeth Findell

Updated August 31, 2019, 7:16 pm ET

At least five people died and 21 were injured in the West Texas cities of Midland and Odessa after a shooter began randomly firing at people Saturday afternoon, Odessa Police Chief Michael Gerke said.

Police in Midland, about 20 miles east of Odessa, said an active shooter was killed at the Cinergy movie theater in Odessa, and there were no others.

The victims included three police officers.

Earlier, Midland police had said they believed there were two shooters in separate vehicles in the area. One was believed to be driving a small gold or white pickup truck and the other a U.S. postal van, the department said. There were also reports of a shooter at a Home Depot in the city, they said.

Both police departments warned the public to stay off of roadways.

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott said he is “heartbroken over this senseless and cowardly attack.” He plans to travel to Odessa tomorrow.

“The state of Texas and the Department of Public Safety are working closely with local law enforcement to provide resources as needed and deliver justice for this heinous attack,” he said. “I thank the first responders who have acted swiftly and admirably under pressure, and I want to remind all Texans that we will not allow the Lone Star State to be overrun by hatred and violence.”

President Trump tweeted on Saturday night that he had been briefed about the Texas shooting by Attorney General William Barr. “FBI and Law Enforcement is fully engaged. More to follow,” he said.

What I wrote about the most important person who ever lived.

"Why did Charles Darwin invent atheism?"

Charles Darwin showed that the magic god fairy was never required for the development of new species. Therefore the fairy was probably not necessary for anything else.

So theism is wrong and atheism is reality.

He never wanted to kill the god fantasy but that's what happened. Morons didn't get the memo.

What some other people wrote about bible bullshit.

What does the Bible say about intellect? What is a smart person according to the Bible?

The Bible does not say much (if anything) about intellect. It does talk about wisdom. According to the Bible, the wisest man had 700 wives, and some wise men from the east blabbed to the old king about a new king, resulting in the massacre of hundreds of innocent infants. It also says that foolish people do not believe in a god are evil, without giving any evidence, and despite contrary evidence.
-- Pyriform

A smart person according to the Bible is someone who believes everything in the Bible (from talking serpents to seven-headed dragons knocking stars out of the sky) because it's in the Bible.
-- Buddy

••••••••••••••••••••

The bible says being a moron is a good thing. What a Christian fucktard wrote:

The Bible says don't get caught up in "intellect." 1 Corinthians 3:19 – The world’s wisdom is foolishness with God. Proverbs 3:7 - Don’t be wise in your own eyes. Proverbs 26:12 - Do you see a person who is wise in his own eyes? There is more hope for a fool than for him.

I wrote about this before a few dozen times. One more time to help people understand.

God did not invent evolution. God did not use evolution. God did not guide evolution. Evolution is the strongest fact of science and God had absolutely nothing to do with it. What are the religious implications?

The religious implications of evolution means the god fairy never had anything to do. Not just evolution but every other branch of science has repeatedly shown the fairy was never necessary for anything.

I never met a Christian who wasn't a fucking moron.

A Christain fucktard wrote, "If evolution was the strongest fact of science then there would not be any debates concerning it."

I wrote this for the fucktard:

There is no debate. Evolution has been accepted as fact for more than a century. Just because uneducated people like don't know anything about it, that doesn't mean there is a debate. It only means you're a know-nothing science denier.

"Capitalism is an abstract machine most beautiful to behold in the wonder of its workings."

http://aynrandlexicon.com/lexicon/capitalism.html

"Capitalism demands the best of every man—his rationality—and rewards him accordingly. It leaves every man free to choose the work he likes, to specialize in it, to trade his product for the products of others, and to go as far on the road of achievement as his ability and ambition will carry him. His success depends on the objective value of his work and on the rationality of those who recognize that value. When men are free to trade, with reason and reality as their only arbiter, when no man may use physical force to extort the consent of another, it is the best product and the best judgment that win in every field of human endeavor, and raise the standard of living—and of thought—ever higher for all those who take part in mankind’s productive activity."

••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••

https://theatheistconservative.com/against-god-and-socialism/

Capitalism works well because it is in tune with our nature. Adam Smith called it “the natural order of liberty”. Everyone selfishly desires to provide for his needs. To pay for what he wants from others – services and goods – he has to provide something that others will pay him for. Millions do it, and the result is prosperity. Capitalism is an abstract machine most beautiful to behold in the wonder of its workings. When individuals have the incentive to achieve, acquire, and enjoy something for themselves, they’ll go to great lengths to afford it. They’ll compete with each other to provide what others want, toil to make it the better product, and set the price of it lower. The best is made available at the least cost. Everyone is both a taker and a giver, and everyone benefits. True, not everyone’s effort always succeeds, but nothing stops anyone from trying again.

••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••

http://www.ushistory.org/gov/13b.asp

Capitalism is based on private ownership of the means of production and on individual economic freedom. Most of the means of production, such as factories and businesses, are owned by private individuals and not by the government. Private owners make decisions about what and when to produce and how much products should cost. Other characteristics of capitalism include the following:

Free competition. The basic rule of capitalism is that people should compete freely without interference from government or any other outside force. Capitalism assumes that the most deserving person will usually win. In theory, prices will be kept as low as possible because consumers will seek the best product for the least amount of money.

Supply and demand. In a capitalist system prices are determined by how many products there are and how many people want them. When supplies increase, prices tend to drop. If prices drop, demand usually increases until supplies run out. Then prices will rise once more, but only as long as demand is high. These laws of supply and demand work in a cycle to control prices and keep them from getting too high or too low.

What I wrote for the fucking morons at the Wall Street Journal.

"Modern communism’s inherent hatred of religion has perhaps found its most brutal demonstration in China’s treatment of the Muslim Uighurs."

This is very wrong but after the 9/11 atrocities I'm not going to complain about it.

By the way, China is a capitalist country these days. They threw out communism because it didn't work.

One more thing. Capitalism is a good thing because it works. Religion is not a good thing because it's ridiculous. This is the 21st century but the god-soaked want to live in the Dark Ages.

Human-caused global warming. Human apes have been destroying this planet and it may be too late to save it.

Wikipedia - Global warming

The effects of global warming include rising sea levels, regional changes in precipitation, more frequent extreme weather events such as heat waves, and expansion of deserts. Surface temperature increases are greatest in the Arctic, which has contributed to the retreat of glaciers, permafrost, and sea ice. Overall, higher temperatures bring more rain and snowfall, but for some regions droughts and wildfires increase instead. Climate change threatens to diminish crop yields, harming food security, and rising sea levels may flood coastal infrastructure and force the abandonment of many coastal cities. Environmental impacts include the extinction or relocation of many species as their ecosystems change, most immediately the environments of coral reefs, mountains, and the Arctic. Because the climate system has a large "inertia" and greenhouse gases persist in the atmosphere, climatic changes and their effects will continue for many centuries even if greenhouse gas emissions are stopped.

••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••

What I wrote for a fucktard at the New York Times:

Charles Darwin wrote "our sympathy should be extended to all sentient beings." I agree with that idea.

Google: "A strong and rapidly growing database on animal sentience supports the acceptance of the fact that other animals are sentient beings. We know that individuals of a wide variety of species experience emotions ranging from joy and happiness to deep sadness, grief, and PTSD, along with empathy, jealousy and resentment."

A Universal Declaration on Animal Sentience.

Anyone who says that life matters less to animals than it does to us has not held in his hands an animal fighting for its life. The whole of the being of the animal is thrown into that fight, without reserve.”
-- Elisabeth Costello, in J. M. Coetzee’s The Lives of Animals

Marc Bekoff Ph.D.

This past weekend during a series of lectures I presented in Germany a number of people asked questions of the sort, "Isn't it about time we accept that animals are sentient and that we know what they want and need, and stop bickering about whether they are conscious, feel pain, and experience many different emotions?" Of course, this isn't the first time I've heard these queries, and my answer is always a resounding "Yes, we do have ample detailed scientific facts to declare that nonhuman animals are sentient beings and there are fewer and fewer skeptics."

Wikipedia - Social effects of evolutionary theory

The notion that humans share ancestors with other animals has also affected how some people view the relationship between humans and other species. Many proponents of animal rights hold that if animals and humans are of the same nature, then rights cannot be distinct to humans.

Charles Darwin, in fact, considered "sympathy" to be one of the most important moral virtues — and that it was, indeed, a product of natural selection and a trait beneficial to social animals (including humans). Darwin further argued that the most "sympathetic" societies would consequently be the most "successful." He also stated that our sympathy should be extended to "all sentient beings":

"As man advances in civilization, and small tribes are united into larger communities, the simplest reason would tell each individual that he ought to extend his social instincts and sympathies to all the members of the same nation, though personally unknown to him. This point being once reached, there is only an artificial barrier to prevent his sympathies extending to the men of all nations and races. If, indeed, such men are separated from him by great differences in appearance or habits, experience unfortunately shows us how long it is, before we look at them as our fellow-creatures. ... This virtue, one of the noblest with which man is endowed, seems to arise incidentally from our sympathies becoming more tender and more widely diffused, until they are extended to all sentient beings. As soon as this virtue is honored and practiced by some few men, it spreads through instruction and example to the young, and eventually becomes incorporated in public opinion."

Religious indoctrination is child abuse. The victims learn how to be morons.

"Scientific education and religious education are incompatible. The clergy have ceased to interfere with education at the advanced state, with which I am directly concerned, but they have still got control of that of children. This means that the children have to learn about Adam and Noah instead of about Evolution; about David who killed Goliath, instead of Koch who killed cholera; about Christ's ascent into heaven instead of Montgolfier's and Wright's. Worse than that, they are taught that it is a virtue to accept statements without adequate evidence, which leaves them a prey to quacks of every kind in later life, and makes it very difficult for them to accept the methods of thought which are successful in science."

Thank goodness I moved from southeast Florida to northwestern Illinois in November last year. The universe is going to kill south Florida on Monday. Category 4 hurricane.

"Hurricane Dorian is now expected to hit Florida even harder than previously thought, prompting a widened state of emergency. The storm is on track to make landfall early Monday as a powerful Category 4 hurricane -- it could be the strongest direct hit to Florida's east coast since Hurricane Andrew in 1992."

When the hurricane hits where I used to live it will be a Category 4 which means it will be a bit windy. 130-156 mph 113-136 kt 209-251 km/h. I looked it up.

Trees will be destroyed. It will be difficult to buy food and water. People will be without electricity for a very long time. People will get killed. The place will be a mess for a long time. Tree limbs all over the place.

South Florida has too many people, too many cars, it's too hot to go outside. Everything is very expensive, especially houses. Florida has a lot of fucktards. Hopefully, some of them will get killed. Good riddance.

It would be impossible for a normal person to make this Idiot America bullshit up.

There is so much said these days about the Apocalypse. It sounds mysterious but what does it really mean?

Death is an accomplished master of destruction and this is evident when we consider abortion, abuse, addiction, adultery, brutality, conflict, crime, disease, drugs, hatred, idolatry, irreverence, jealousy, lies, lust, murder, neglect, pestilence, racial conflict, rape, rebellion, revenge, starvation, stealing, suicide, violence, and war. These are Satan’s calling cards, and his record of achievement swells with each passing year.

Why would God allow Satan to have such a reign in the hearts of mankind? The answer is found in Jeremiah 17:9: The heart (of man) is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked.” But, the Lord does not turn His back on mankind. Instead, because of His great and mighty love, He provides a way out; a way of escape. Jesus Christ came to this earth to seek and to save the lost (Luke 19:10).

Trump’s Tariff Wars Are Killing Farmers Like Me

August 27, 2019

Regarding your editorial “Cut the Trump Uncertainty Tax” (August 22, 2019): As a walnut farmer in California, I must comment that President Trump’s federal aid to affected small farms is a mere drop in the bucket. The losses farmers are experiencing due to our trade war is about 36 cents per pound of walnuts a year. My farm produces about two million pounds a year. President Trump’s idea of making us whole is to give us two-and-one-half cents per pound and act like he is taking care of us. He is not.

The trade war is devastating.

I wrote a ridiculous moronic god-soaked question about evolution and I got this excellent answer.

How could anyone believe in evolution? There is no evidence for evolution. We know God created all life.

••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••

You yourself prove evolution is a true theory.

1. You are a Eukaryote. This is where we split off from other bacteria/viruses in evolution. A Eukaryote is simply when the genetic information is contained within the nucleus of the cell (as your cells attest to).

2. You are a Unikont. Meaning you are driven from behind by a single flagellum. To understand this you need to look at the sperm cell.

3. You are a Metazoa. In other words, you are an animal. I.E. you are a homo-sapien zoologically.

4. You are Bilaterally Symmetrical. You have a body cavity that splits you down the middle with an opening on one end for food and an opening on the other end for excrement. If I remember correctly it was a sponge like creature that first exhibited this effect.

5. You are a Deuterostome. The Anus is the first hole that forms. You can see this in your growth as an Embryo. The Anus is the first hole to form as a Blastocyst in your mother's womb.

6. You are a Chordata. You have a spinal Chord. This first formed among a primitive fish if I remember correctly. This provided a flexible rod which allowed for faster movement.

7. You are a Craniata. Meaning you have a Cranium.

8. You are a Vertebrata. Meaning you have vertebrates that formed along the spinal chord.

9. You are a Gnathostomata. Meaning you have a Jawed Cranium.

10. You are a Terrestrial Vertebrate. You have digits on all 4 extremities adapted for walking on land. We knew the geological strata we would first find this in and the location where we should find this type of species. With this information scientists made a prediction that this fish would be found in the fossil records (which is a transitional species) and where we would find it. They then looked for this fish and found it. It is called Tiktaalik and has the exact same bone structure you do on your arms. This fish walked on land. Of course it is not the only fish to do such but it is your ancestry.

11. You are an Amniota. The egg contains amniotic fluid.

12. You are a Mammal. I shouldn't need to explain this one at all.

13. You are Eutheria. A Placental Mammal.

14. You are a Primate.

15. You are a Hominidae.

16. You are a Homo.

17. You are a Homo-Sapien.

Most Clades we actually do have the fossils for and slow progressive stages between each Clade is shown in this fossil record. Literally Thousands of these "Transitional Fossils". Let me give you some examples of fossils between modern Homo-Sapiens and the ancestors we share with other Apes. Remember this is only one lineage we are following if we include other species it progressively becomes even more insane.

Take a quick look at these species. Look them up, study the images. Notice their distinct changes through time. Then ask yourself, What are they? The closer and closer you get through time to the present the more clear the answer becomes.

Yes, the Piltdown man was a Hoax. One perpetrated against evolutionary science and revealed by the same science as the fraud it was because it didn't match the data of the other fossils. The Nebraska Man was also faulty. It was blown out of proportion by a magazine (not a scientific journal) and they drew whole images off a single fragment later found to not be related to us. The scientist who found it tried to get the magazine to retract its article as they sensationalized the finding and in doing so reported it wrong. Homo Neanderthalensis was not a man with Rickets. It was whole communities of people with many distinct differences to their skeletal structure (shorter and much stalkier, thick bones, flared out rib cages, differing pelvis, etc...) and thankfully is young enough that we have some DNA from them that we can show is not the same species as Homo Sapien. In certain sections of our DNA we have an average of 8 differences between each of us Homo Sapiens. Neanderthal has over 4 times that many differences in those areas.

Let us not forget things like the Endogenous retroviruses we share with other apes. In the distant past one of our ancestors got infected with a virus that is preserved in our own DNA. Well when we look at the exact same section of DNA on our distant ape relatives what do we see? That's right the same virus in the exact same area. Or how most animals can synthesise their own Vit C but we and other apes have the genes to synthesis it but the genes are coded with a stop turning the gene off. Why would God specially code in 99% DNA match with other apes, give us both the exact same virus in the exact same area, and give us the DNA for vit C only to not allow us to produce it?

Final thought. Remember this, the thing is, this can be traced in reverse via genetic sequencing and it reveals the same pattern in our DNA as the fossil record and Phylogenetics gives us (as I just laid out for you). You know the same science that establishes paternity and convicts killers in a court of law. But it isn't just this science that says this. All of Biology, phylogeny, genetic sequencing, fossil records, anthropology, geological strata, comparative morphology, embryology, and even medicine all agree to this pattern of our history. All these different branches of science from people the world over who never talk to each other all come to the same conclusion. Is it some giant conspiracy to keep God down in every area of the world even where they don't believe in one specific version of God and even by many who do believe in some specific version of God?

Evolution is true and Religion will do good to figure that out.

Some more evidence for evolution. Somebody else wrote this stuff.

Here is my list. There is more, I just tried to stick with the easy to understand ones.

* Fossils - the order can be determined by stratification alone (no radiological dating) it is unarguable and life started simple and got more complex. Here is a simple chart to show what I mean: http://pubs.usgs.gov/gip/fossils/success...

* Circular species. Meaning that it geographically evolved in two geographic directions with interbreeding possible between all steps but not the two ends. The two ends are actually separate species. Example: http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/evolution/librar...

* Mitochondrial DNA regressive studies. - This comes only from your mother and the only changes to it are through mutations. These mutations occur at a known rate, and converge world wide 150,000 years ago give or take. If Eve (6000 years ago) was the only female, it would be almost identical world wide. It is not. The flood gives a second bottleneck that matches the facts even less well.

* Geographic distribution of related species. Meaning related species are usually near each other.

* Wisdom Teeth - there isn't room on your jaw for them anymore.

* Your little toe - totally useless. Nice intelligent design here.

* Your appendix - totally useless now but it does digest cellulose in other species.

* Your inner eyelids - They don't even work now, but they do for lots of other animals like house cats. Bet you didn't even know you had 'em.

* Vestigial DNA - meaning chromosomes that we have but don't use, but that are used in other species. We have several that other primates use but are totally useless to us.

* The fact that we share so much DNA among species

* There are no wild milk cows. They evolved through artificial selection and are totally man made.

* Different breeds of dogs, cats, livestock.

* Viruses and bacteria evolve quickly and you can actually see it. This is why you need a new flu shot every year.

* Your tail bone. It is even not that uncommon to be born with a tail.

* Goosebumps - this would be useful if we had fur because it fluffs it and makes more insulation. For us it is worthless.

* The hair standing up on your neck when you are frightened. Animals use this to make themselves look bigger. Doesn't work when you walk upright and don't have fur.

* The fact that humans have gotten measurably and heritability taller since the 1600s

* The fact that humans jaw have gotten measurably and heritability smaller since the 1600s

* The fact that humans little toes have gotten measurably and heritability smaller since the 1600s

* Human lower back problems. Your back is intelligently designed to have support from your shoulders.

* Transitional fossils - here are several lists: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_tra...

And we recognize science fiction when we see it.

Evolutionism is a lie of the Devil.

FUCKTARD:

Simple as there is not one shred of evidence of Darwinian evolution.

GOD has a wonderful purpose for humans. He created the first man and woman, Adam and Eve, to live in a beautiful garden. His purpose was for them to have children, to make the whole earth a paradise, and to take care of the animals.—Genesis 1:28; 2:8, 9, 15
Do you think that we will ever live in a paradise? Jehovah tells us: “I have purposed it, and I will also carry it out.” (Isaiah 46:9-11; 55:11) Yes, he will do what he has purposed, and nothing will stop him. Jehovah says that he created the earth for a reason. He “did not create it simply for nothing.” (Isaiah 45:18) He wants people to live all over the earth. What kind of people does God want to live here, and for how long? The Bible says: “The righteous [or, obedient] will possess the earth, and they will live forever on it.”—Psalm 37:29; Revelation 21:3, 4.

Evolution and Monarchs

Posted on Sunday, January 1, 2006 at 11:40 am in Monarch Biology
So, what secrets does the story of monarch evolution hold? How has this tenacious insect developed over time to become the butterfly we know today? What are its closest ancestors and how did it split from them along the evolutionary tree? How has it developed the characteristics which make it so unique, like it’s migratory life cycle and mating strategies? And how can these concepts be integrated into the classroom?
The Class Insecta, to which monarchs belong, appeared in the fossil record during the Devonian period, around 400 million years ago. The earliest forms were small and flightless, but because insects can rapidly adapt to selective pressures and produce many offspring to pass on these adaptations successfully, they quickyl radiated (evolved) into different forms. for instance, the first winged insects (the pterygotes appear quite explosively in the fossil record-- evidently because the ability to fly gave them such an enduring survival advantage.
Variety in the Class Insects (Photo: MITC)
The order Lepidoptera, which includes today's butterflies and moths, emerged in the fossil record during the cretaceous Period (146-65 million years ago). it was a member of the Endopterygotaclade, which was successful through the adaptation of complete metamorphosis. In these "holo-metabolous" insects a larval stage is specialized for eating and growing, and an adult stage specialized for mating and reproducing. Usually this adult form is winged, whereas the larval form is not. Instead the wings develop internally and mature during a resting or pupal stage (as in the familiar monarch life cycle).
A Lepidopteran Moth (Photo: MITC)
The closest relatives to the Lepidoptera are in the order Tricoptera (caddisflies). Caddisflies also undergo complete metamorphosis, but their arvae are aquatic and spend this stage of their life in fast-moving streams. They also pupate under water. Only when they emerge as adults do their similiarities to moths and butterflies become obvious. Adult caddisflies look like small, simple moths, and their wings are covered in hair-like scales like Lepidoptera. However, the caddisfly adult only lives for a few days. Often its mouthparts are reduced or absent and they cannot eat.
A Tricopteran caddisfly
A Danainae species, the glassy blue tiger
The Lepidoptera have the distinct advantage of being able to feed as adults (with a few exceptions). Their characteristic proboscis allows them to suck nectar from flowers, thus obtaining the nergy to live longer and reproduce more effectively. This trait led to one of the most interesting evolution stories of all. The process of co-evolutino between the higher insects and flowering plants is a striking phenomenon, with 20% of all insects feeding on flowers, pollen, or nectar and 2/3rds of flowering plants relying on insects for pollination.
The monarch belongs to the family Nymphalidae, a group of butterflies characterized by a reduced first pair of legs. Other members of this family include the beautiful blue morpho butterfly and the painted lady. Monarchs are in the sub-family Danainae, which contains butterflies that have evolved to feed on the poisonous milkweed plant, actually assimilating the toxins from the milkweed into their bodies. This unique development has given the Danainae a distinct advantage; they are distasteful to many predators. Some species of the Danainae clade closely resemble the monarch, but are brilliant blue instead of orange, like the glassy blue tiger to the left. Many of these blue species are endemic to Africa and Asia.

Someone else wrote this stuff. It's about the asshole bible god and the Christian fucktards who suck up to the disgusting thing. I'm adding this to my list of favorite quotes.

What is the purpose of life according to religion?

Religious people are always saying that life is pointless without religion but I don't get it.

How is groveling for eternity to a monster who drowned a planet full of men, women, children and innocent babies a purposeful activity?

Seems utterly pointless and ridiculous to me. I think it hilarious that some people still believe they have a magical ghost self instead of their consciousness residing in the brain.

NPR - Florida Governor Declares State Of Emergency As Hurricane Dorian Moves North

August 28, 2019

Hurricane Dorian is predicted to strengthen into a Category 3 storm before reaching Florida's coast early Monday, the National Hurricane Center says

Tropical Storm Dorian officially became Hurricane Dorian on Wednesday, its sustained winds topping 80 mph hitting Puerto Rico and St. Thomas in the Virgin Islands before heading northwest. Forecasters are now warning that the storm will strengthen into a dangerous Category 3 hurricane as it nears the U.S. mainland.

"Dorian is moving toward the northwest near 13 mph (20 km/h), and this general motion is expected to continue through Friday. On this track, Dorian should move over the Atlantic well east of the southeastern and central Bahamas on Thursday and Friday," the National Hurricane Center said in its 8 p.m. ET report.

"All indications are that by this Labor Day weekend, a powerful hurricane will be near or over the Florida peninsula," the National Hurricane Center said at 5 p.m. ET.

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis has declared a state of emergency for 26 counties in the path of the hurricane.

The eye of Hurricane Dorian was located about 60 miles northwest of San Juan, Puerto Rico, as of Wednesday night.

"The Hurricane Warning for Vieques, Culebra, and the U.S. Virgin Islands has been discontinued," the National Hurricane Center report added. "The Hurricane Watch and Tropical Storm Warning for Puerto Rico have been discontinued."

Dorian caused only limited damage in Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

"We're happy because there are no damages to report," Culebra Mayor William Solís told The Associated Press. He said only one community on his island lost power.

Dorian is expected to become a major hurricane (Category 3 and above) as it moves north of the Bahamas. The NHC's current predictions show Dorian's center hitting Florida's coast early Monday. But the Florida coast could see tropical-storm-force winds arrive as early as Saturday night.

The center currently predicts the storm will make landfall near an area that's roughly level with Orlando. But that potential location could shift drastically as the storm develops.

As meteorologist Philip Klotzbach notes, "The average date for the 1st Atlantic major hurricane is September 3."

The earliest projected effects of the winds of Hurricane Dorian
NHC Director Ken Graham cautioned that for Florida, even though Dorian is estimated to make landfall Monday morning, "the impacts could come a lot earlier than that," saying intense rain, tropical-storm-force winds and a storm surge could begin to affect the coastline far from the storm's center.

Acknowledging that considerable uncertainty remains over the path Dorian will take, Graham also said anyone on the southeastern U.S. coast from Florida up through Georgia and South Carolina should watch for potential hazards.

Earlier, President Trump had declared an emergency in the commonwealth of Puerto Rico, ordering the Federal Emergency Management Agency late Tuesday to provide "equipment and resources necessary to alleviate the impacts of the emergency."

Vázquez Garced thanked Trump for approving the declaration, saying it would "allow federal aid to arrive more quickly" after the storm passes.

In a statement about its preparations, FEMA said that its "stock on the island compared to 2017 levels includes three times as many generators, nine times as many meals, five times as many liters of water and 16 times as many blue tarps."

Meanwhile, the fifth named storm of the 2019 Atlantic season formed late Tuesday, as Tropical Storm Erin's winds reached 40 mph. The storm, which was several hundred miles southeast of Cape Hatteras, N.C., was downgraded to a tropical depression on Wednesday. Erin is expected to remain on a north-northeastern track, likely arriving at Canada's coast late this week.

NPR's Windsor Johnston contributed to this report.

I also wrote this stuff at the Wall Street Journal:

Fossils help paleontologists understand how new species evolved. But even if there were no fossils we still know human apes evolved from ancient apes thanks to thousands of evidences from DNA sequencing.

We also know chimpanzee apes are more closely related to human apes than they are to gorilla apes and orangutan apes.

Our evolutionary relationship with the other ape species is one of the strongest facts of science.

Wall Street Journal - Scientists Put a Face on an Ancient Human Ancestor

A cranium 3.8 million years old helps fill out the picture of the earliest human skull from an era with a nearly-vacant fossil record.

The 3.8 million-year-old specimen
By Robert Lee Hotz

August 28, 2019

Scientists on Wednesday announced their discovery of a face from the earliest moments of human evolution: a cranium 3.8 million years old belonging to a creature that stood on the cusp of apes and humans.

The fossilized head bones reveal for the first time the blunt snout, broad cheeks and narrow forehead of a distant human relation called Australopithecus anamensis, who may have vied for survival in the primeval scrub of East Africa at the same time as the iconic human ancestor “Lucy” and her kin, the scientists said. The researchers published details of their find in the journal Nature.

“What we see is a very primitive face,” said paleoanthropologist Yohannes Haile-Selassie from the Cleveland Museum of Natural History, who led the international research team that discovered the nearly complete cranium in Ethiopia. Until now, the anamensis species, among the oldest in the human family tree, had been known only from teeth, a few broken jaw bones, part of an elbow and a shin.

“It helps fill out a picture of the earliest human skull in a period that until now has been almost vacant in the fossil record,” said paleoanthropologist William Kimbel, director of the Institute of Human Origins at Arizona State University, who recently examined the fossil. He wasn’t part of the discovery team. “It provides a baseline from which we can eventually see the emergence of the human face.”

Fred Spoor, an expert in fossil human skulls at the Natural History Museum in London, who wasn’t involved in the discovery, said, “This cranium looks to become another celebrated icon of human evolution.”

Even so, it isn’t so easy to discern something recognizably human in a cranium that once held a brain about the size of a chimpanzee’s, several scientists said. It has relatively modern cheeks but unusually large canine teeth and a prominent crest of bone running along its forehead to anchor chewing muscles that were more powerful than those of a modern ape.

“It is surprisingly primitive,” said paleoanthropologist Bernard Wood at George Washington University, who wasn’t involved in the research. ”If you looked at it on a dark night with a bit of mist in the air, you’d have difficulty telling it from a chimp.”

In fact, it would require millions of years of adaptation to new foods, changing climates and the growing advantage of expressive features for communicating needs, to sculpt its facial structure into the sharp-chin, aquiline nose, flat cheeks and smooth forehead of contemporary humankind, several experts on human origins said.

“It is a big jump from the face of anamensis to you and me,” said Dr. Kimbel.

The researchers discovered the cranium in 2016 at a place called Woranso-Mille in Ethiopia’s Afar region, about 340 miles from the capital, Addis Ababa. The site is just over 30 miles from the Hadar, where in 1974 scientists discovered the world-famous skeleton of Lucy, a 3.2 million-year-old specimen of a closely related species called Australopithecus afarensis.

A local Afar worker named Ali Bereino found the first fragment, part of the upper jaw, nestled among the rocks. The researchers soon uncovered the rest of the cranium. They concluded that it belonged to a small adult male who likely lived and died along an ancient lake shore there, and had been washed into the sandy shallows where it was preserved.

Geologist Beverly Saylor of Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland and her colleagues determined the age of the fossil as 3.8 million years by dating minerals in nearby layers of volcanic rocks.

Already, the discovery is renewing a debate over the earliest humankind. In recent years, many researchers believed that the anamensis species vanished when slightly more advanced descendants like Lucy emerged.

Dr. Haile-Selassie and his colleagues suggested instead that the two species might have coexisted for up to 100,000 years or so, along with as many as three other small-brained prehuman species.

“I am far from persuaded,” said paleoanthropologist Tim D. White at the University of California Berkeley. He believes it more likely that these creatures are all variations of the same species. “This discovery is a great example of a very important fossil that does not require a redraw of our family tree.”

Other researchers found the distinctions plausible. “Just because one species gave rise to another, the source species doesn’t just disappear,” said Richard Potts, head of the human origins program at the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History. “We’ve known for decades that the human family tree is branching and diverse.”

Only more fossil discoveries can settle the debate, the scientists said.

In the interim, the protruding features of the anamensis face make these distant human relatives more memorable. “It is good to finally be able to put a face on the name,” said expedition member Stephanie Melillo at the Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology in Leipzig, Germany, who helped identify the cranium.

Bangladesh arrests hardline cleric over TV host's death

Agence France Presse

DHAKA: Bangladesh police said Monday they have arrested a hardline Muslim preacher for allegedly inciting the murder of a popular television host.

Sheikh Nurul Islam Faruqi, the 60-year-old chief cleric of a Dhaka mosque and host of television shows on Islamic issues, was found tied to a chair with his throat slit at his home in the capital in August.

Police suspect he was murdered by Ansarullah Bangla, a little-known group of hardline Islamists whose members were accused of killing an atheist blogger last year.

On Monday police said they had arrested 35-year-old preacher Mozaffor bin Mohosin after video footage of him calling Faruqi an "apostate" emerged.

"We've arrested him for inciting the murder. He has been remanded for two days for questioning," police spokesman Monirul Islam told AFP.

"We have seen the video in which he (Mohosin) could be seen seeking Faruqi's punishment because he promoted (Sufi) shrines in his programmes."

Mohosin has denied the charge, he said.

The gruesome murder highlighted the growing faultline between hardline Saudi-style Salafi Islamists in Muslim-majority Bangladesh and the country's centuries-old tradition of Sufi-inspired moderate Islam.

Salafists say that worshipping at Sufi shrines is anti-Islamic.

The police spokesman said Mohosin regularly preached at a Dhaka mosque attended by militants from the Ansarullah group.

Faruqi's murder triggered protests by moderate Islamic groups, who called a nationwide strike to demand the culprits' swift arrest.

In the last decade, Islamic militants in Bangladesh have killed around 100 people seen as critical of Islam, including secular and cultural activists and bloggers. They have also bombed Sufi shrines which were deemed un-Islamic.

Last year six people including a 60-year-old man who called himself a Sufi master were slaughtered at their home in a similar fashion to Faruqi.

Police have not yet solved those cases.

Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro has ruled out accepting a G7 offer of aid to fight fires in the Amazon rainforest unless he gets an apology from his French counterpart, Emmanuel Macron.
Mr Bolsonaro said the French leader should apologise for insulting him personally by calling him a liar.
Mr Macron had accused him of "lying" about fighting climate change.
Aid worth $22m (£18m) was announced by Mr Macron at a summit in France of the seven leading industrial powers.

Satellite data show a record number of fires burning in Brazil, most of them in the Amazon region.
Earlier, Brazilian ministers said the G7 money was not needed and they accused foreign powers of wanting control of the Amazon.

How personal is the row?

Last week, Mr Macron said Mr Bolsonaro had "lied" to him at a G20 summit in Osaka, Japan, in June by failing to respect his climate commitments and by failing to pursue biodiversity.
Mr Macron said France would not ratify a huge trade deal with South American nations unless Brazil did more to fight fires in the Amazon.

On Tuesday, Mr Bolsonaro told reporters in the capital Brasilia: "Mr Macron must withdraw the insults that he made to my person. Firstly, he called me a liar."
He also accused Mr Macron of questioning Brazilian sovereignty over the Amazon region, Brazilian news website G1 reports.
"To talk or to accept anything from France, whether it be with the best possible intentions, he [Mr Macron] will have to withdraw those words and then we can talk," he said.
The two presidents hold sharply different political views, with Mr Bolsonaro hailing from the far right in Brazil and Mr Macron elected in a run-off against the far right in France.
In another development, Mr Bolsonaro responded to a joke on Facebook mocking the age of Mr Macron's wife Brigitte who, at 65, is 25 years his senior. He wrote: "Do not humiliate the guy, ha ha."
Asked about Mr Bolsonaro's remarks, Mr Macron said they were "extraordinarily rude" and "sad".
Adding to the row over the aid offer, Mr Bolsonaro's chief of staff, Onyx Lorenzoni, mocked the fire that ravaged Notre-Dame cathedral in Paris in April.
"Macron cannot even avoid a predictable fire in a church that is part of the world's heritage and he wants to give us lessons for our country?" he said, quoted by the Globo news website.

Does Brazil need help to fight the fires?

As the largest rainforest in the world, the Amazon is a vital carbon store that slows down the pace of global warming. It spans a number of countries, but the majority of it falls within Brazil.

Wildfires often occur in the dry season in Brazil but satellite data published by Brazil's space agency show an increase of 80% this year.
BBC analysis has also found that the record number of fires being recorded coincides with a sharp drop in fines being handed out for environmental violations.

Mr Bolsonaro has previously said his government lacks the resources to fight the record number of fires in the Amazon region but his government is also being accused of slashing funding for environmental protection.
"The funding for Brazil's environment agency has gone down by 95% this year," Yadvinder Malhi, professor of Ecosystem Science at the University of Oxford, told the BBC's Today programme.
On Friday, President Bolsonaro authorised the military to help tackle the blazes.

Brazil says 44,000 soldiers have been deployed to combat the fires and environmental crimes in the Amazon, and military operations are under way in seven states as the result of requests for assistance from local governments.

What are people on the ground saying?

Jorgimar Alberto, from Roraima, one of the states most affected by the fires, has seen the burning of most of the land surrounding his wooden house.

"It's a risky situation, we have lots of crops here and everything is burning, such as the cashew trees," he told the BBC.
"I even had to keep the animals [inside] so that they don't burn as well. Every year it is the same, these fires are disturbing the region a lot."
Environmental officials helped him extinguish the fires last week only for them to reignite, he said.
His wife could not stand staying in the house with the smell of burning and the threat getting ever closer, so she left.
Lumberyard owner Edson Oliveira from southern Amazonas said he did not believe the media coverage about the Amazon.
"In my opinion, the parts that are burning are the same that burn every year," he told the BBC.
Asked what he would like politicians to do for the Amazon, he said that he would like "economic alternatives for people here, to find a way we can make use of the natural wealth we have here".
"It's no use pointing the finger at what's wrong without bringing alternatives to people," he said.

What was pledged at the summit?

The $22m was announced on Monday as the leaders of the G7 - Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the UK and the US - met in Biarritz, France.
Mr Macron said the funds would be made available immediately - primarily to pay for more firefighting planes - and that France would also "offer concrete support with military in the region".

Greenpeace France described the G7's response to the crisis as "inadequate given the urgency and magnitude of this environmental disaster".
As international concern over the fires spread, Hollywood actor Leonardo DiCaprio pledged $5m towards helping the rainforest.

Why is Bolsonaro so prickly about foreign aid?

He has long maintained that European countries are trying to gain access to Brazil's natural resources. He alleges that European interest in the welfare of the Amazon is a thin guise for attempts to gain a foothold in the region.
Asked by international journalists about environmental protection of the Amazon at a press briefing on 6 July, he said: "Brazil is like a virgin that every pervert from the outside lusts for."
