Trump’s Tariff Wars Are Killing Farmers Like Me
August 27, 2019
Regarding your editorial “Cut the Trump Uncertainty Tax” (August 22, 2019): As a walnut farmer in California, I must comment that President Trump’s federal aid to affected small farms is a mere drop in the bucket. The losses farmers are experiencing due to our trade war is about 36 cents per pound of walnuts a year. My farm produces about two million pounds a year. President Trump’s idea of making us whole is to give us two-and-one-half cents per pound and act like he is taking care of us. He is not.
The trade war is devastating.
