I asked this question:
Creationists only read anti-science websites. Why are they afraid of real scientists?

I think that the denial and unwillingness to listen to reason comes from the fact that all religion is a defense mechanism. In itself, being a devout Christian (or any other religion) is a way to cope with the fact that the universe was an accident, life and consciousness are temporary, and our existence is insignificant (honestly it’s objectively meaningless, but that’s not a bad thing!). As a person who studies human evolution, these ideas don’t scare me anymore, although they definitely used to. I find something akin to spirituality in the beautiful way that every living being is connected to each other via our LCA, and the incredible luck that we each have to be such complex creatures at such a fascinating time in the universe.
