Common sense is a good thing. Somebody else wrote this comment at the Wall Street Journal.

Sounds like basic public schooling needs an update...maybe during gym class...to save lives:
* When stopped for any reason, keep your hands visible
* Don't resist arrest and flee the scene
* Don't steal an officer's weapon and then point it at police
* Optional but not necessary: "yes sir" works wonderfully well to calm any situation.
* Follow these basic principles to avoid disappointing your mother and becoming infamous
