"Christians, does your loving god torture atheists?"
He destroys the unrepentant ones in the lake of fire. Its called "the second death."
Rev 21:8 But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death

Those who are unwise and unwilling to turn to God to receive salvation which Jesus extends freely, which was purchased through His own torture and death for them, though they were unworthy in the first place to receive it -- choose their own fate. God is Life, and those who deny Life, cannot have Life. It is that simple. God doesn't show partiality. Regardless of your sins, if you want to be saved, you can be. God is not asking you to be more perfect than anyone else. All unrighteousness is sin, and the Bible concludes that all are sinners. If we think we are righteous because we compare ourselves to the worst people out there, we are unwise. And if we think we can't get in because there are people who are less sinful than us in this world, we are mistaken. God offers salvation for whosoever turns to Him, and calls upon His name, asking Him in sincerity and in truth with a humble heart to be saved, and forgiven of their sins.
Jesus has done all the works required to grant us righteous standing before the Lord, what we did not have, when we didn't have Him. We must reach out and accept what He offers to us. Just as Arnold's character said, "Come with me if you want to live," this is how Jesus is when it comes to your soul.
