I disagree with Jerry Coyne (and probably a few million other Americans) about a minor thing.

At A lunch in Puebla Jerry Coyne wrote "Welcome to El Burladero, which I believe refers to the wooden barrier around the edge of a bull ring where the banderilleras and matador stand when not engaged with a bull (yes, there are still cruel bullfights in Mexico)."

I'm a big fan of bullfights. I wrote a post about it at In Spain they don't call a bullfight a bullfight. It's not a fight. The bull has to die. It's against the law to let it live because it would be too dangerous after its experience in the ring. In Spain it's called "corrida" which translated to English means "running".

Interesting fact: I was in Puebla, Mexico in 1989. Somebody broke into my car and stole lots of my stuff. I saw a police officer and told him about the crime. We got into my car and he gave me directions to the police station. I learned a few Spanish words on the way there. Of course the police told me they could do nothing. I then decided to go back to the United States before something worse happened. Not long after I made it into Texas my very old car stopped working. Some Texans fixed it then I drove back to Chicago.
