Creationists are unable to understand anything, no matter how simple it is.

When talking to a creationist (always a waste of time) virtually always the creationist says "evolution is just a theory" or "evolution is only a theory" or "evolution is a theory which means it's a wild guess that has no evidence".

Because of this never ending misconception it's a mistake to call the theory of evolution "the theory of evolution" because creationists will never be able to understand what a scientific theory is.

When necessary I try to explain the definition of a scientific theory (with some help from the National Academy of Sciences) even though it's pointless to explain anything to a creationist moron.

A theory is the highest level of understanding in science, higher than an hypothesis, higher than laws, higher than facts.

THEORY: "In science, a well-substantiated explanation of some aspect of the natural world that can incorporate facts, laws, inferences, and tested hypotheses. The contention that evolution should be taught as a "theory, not as a fact" confuses the common use of these words with the scientific use. In science, theories do not turn into facts through the accumulation of evidence. Rather, theories are the end points of science. They are understandings that develop from extensive observation, experimentation, and creative reflection. They incorporate a large body of scientific facts, laws, tested hypotheses, and logical inferences. In this sense, evolution is one of the strongest and most useful scientific theories we have."
