This is my 792nd post and my 34th off-topic post. I'm getting a bit bored with the science killed religion stuff so maybe more posts in the future will be off-topic. My off-topic subjects so far have included music, cartoons, chess, protecting the environment, and making money without having to work for it.
This post is about making money without having to get a real job. The idea is to stay in bed until I make at least one thousand dollars. That's actually what I used to do back when the stock market went crazy in the late 1990's. Frequently my rapidly growing wealth would go up another thousand bucks before I got out of bed.
Unfortunately the fun ended in the year 2000. Even more unfortunate was by the time I realized what was going on I had lost a quarter of a million dollars. It was vaporized in a crashing stock market. Whoops, I should have sold everything earlier. My problem was my experience had taught me to never sell. I learned a valuable lesson that year. I learned I didn't know what the heck I was doing.
I have a new strategy for the future which I wrote about at How to be wealthy. My new idea is to avoid corporations, no matter how successful they are, if they don't pay excellent dividends that are increased every year. The idea is to not depend on the market going up. Instead I will depend on the dividends for all my income. Since I will only buy corporations that have a long history of large dividend increases every year for the previous several years, I can be confident my income will go up every year without me having to do anything.
I've been researching dozens of corporations and I noticed something interesting about the safest investments. The corporations that meet my criteria, a long history of rapidly growing dividends, are very likely to be what I call evil corporations. They only care about one thing, making money. They sell products that kill their customers. Their premature deaths and their bad health doesn't bother these corporations at all. To them money is more important than anything, even the lives of other people.
The title of this post asks the question "Is it wrong to profit from murdering stupid people (also known as customers)?"
If you smoke cigarettes and/or if you eat junk food, and if you're sensitive, you might want to leave now because you're one of the customers I'm talking about.
I still have a lot of research to do but right now my two favorite corporations for making money are McDonald's and Philip Morris International. Both of these corporations are responsible for more deaths than the atrocities in World War Two. They have a long history of murdering people to make a profit. Personally I wouldn't feed the McDonald's crap to a dog, and I wouldn't smoke a tobacco cigarette. If I wanted to smoke something I would try cannabis which at least has the advantage of getting me stoned. Tobacco is good for nothing but getting sick.
OK, is murder immoral? Yes it is. Nothing could be more wrong. So how do I justify buying shares of McDonald's and Philip Morris International?
What if I don't buy shares of those corporations? Will I save any lives? No. It makes no difference who makes a profit off of stupid people. They're going to die young whether or not I invest in the corporations that are killing them.
But still the whole thing is wrong. I almost feel sorry for these morons who should know better. But I'm going to invest in these companies anyway.
Am I giving normal people (aka atheists) a bad reputation? Perhaps I am. So should I remain poor all my life to avoid having anything to do with genocide? I don't think so. I'm going to put my money anywhere I think it's the best possible investment I can make. And I'm not going to worry about something I can't change, which is the stupidity of people who for some reason are not interested in having a healthy lifestyle.
