Darwin wrote "It appears to me (whether rightly or wrongly) that direct arguments against christianity & theism produce hardly any effect on the public; & freedom of thought is best promoted by the gradual illumination of men's minds which follows from the advance of science. It has, therefore, been always my object to avoid writing on religion, & I have confined myself to science. I may, however, have been unduly biased by the pain which it would give some members of my family, if I aided in any way direct attacks on religion."
Darwin's wife was very religious and to avoid upsetting her he kept the stupidity of the god fantasy out of his books. He explained his scientific evidence for natural selection without pointing out the obvious fact his discoveries made supernatural magic unnecessary. He figured out that science will eventually convince people to throw out their childish superstitions so there was no need to talk about it.
Darwin was correct. Scientific knowledge has already convinced the populations of more advanced countries to throw out Dark Ages fantasies. Even Idiot America is gradually catching up. A large percentage of our younger population is not interested in supernatural bullshit. I bet in one century we will be equal to what Europe is today, a country with empty churches.
